Not literally. As I think you well know it's a reference to an age old saying as in " Even the rats abandon a sinking ship". In this context therefore it is referring to the large number of employees leaving all at the same time, when it is speculated that Castleford are in deep if not terminal financial trouble, for their survival in the job market. Therefore, they are jumping ship as do rats when an actual ship founders at sea.

Depends what you mean by "in the mire"
Now then, it's a race between Sandie....and Fairburn....and the little man is in........yeees he's in.
I, just like those Castleford supporters felt that the ball should have gone to David Plange but he put the bit betwen his teeth...and it was a try

The real Mick Gledhill is what you see on here, a Bradford fan ........, but deep down knows that Bradford are just not good enough to challenge the likes of Leeds & St Helens.

Its a turn of phrase, I dont particularly think its derogatory, nor do I think there was any intention to be derogatory. They are not implying that anyone is a rat, and to suggest so is ludicrous.

The rats are Always first to leave a sinking ship: puts people's loyalty into question
In any case they are by no means the first since in recent months at least three senior members of staff including current chief exec and general manager gave left and joined featherstone rovers

Can you have double irony? Isn't that a statement of fact? Where's Ed Byrne/Alannis Morrisette when you need them?
It does not look good, at all, but recent history suggests there is a long long way to go before we'll know how Cas' short and medium term future is going to pan out. Good luck to Cas, they're a wonderful club.
