Predictions for the future -
Crusaders RL to get a franchise for 2012 onwards -WRONG
Widnes Vikings also to get a franchise - RIGHT
Crusaders RL to do the double over Widnes and finish five places ahead of them -WRONG
Widnes Vikings NOT to dominate rugby league in years to come! STILL TO COME

Yes, though given it was yours truly entering the data, after a conversation with the other journalist in attendance, I wouldn't say it was 100 per cent accurate.

Decent game, though - entertaining, some good tries, a bit of biff, a chance to see a couple of ex Sonics playing for the All Golds etc. Hemel worthy winners - they were notably better in the forwards. The All Golds look a bit small.

I wouldn't go quite as far as that this early - I'll wait to see if they can do the same to Rochdale week after next. 721 of us turned up on a freezing cold day in Wrexham, which bodes well for the future!

Should be a bit of a humdinger down at Wrexham in a couple of weeks. You'll get long odds on Gary Middlehurst going the distance ;)

was very pleased with the Stags in the second half, enjoyed the day out thorougly. I think people fretting about the All Golds are wide of the mark - it's a long term project and also shouldnt be looked at through the prism of attendances. They are a club unlike any other previously seen in RL and I'm sure their wage bill is the lowest of the 9 CC1 teams by some margin (at a wild guess I'll go with 50k for the job lot of them, perhaps less) I'm sure their ground rental is peppercorn and that the University and Lionel Hurst are more than capable of picking up any shortfall.
As for the Stags getting hammered 100-0 this season. NFW (the first word being no and the last way). There were a lot of errors in the first half and perhaps the Stags will finish 8th this season (perhaps not) and take a few whuppings on their travels but if you thought yesterday was woeful then you havent been watching that much CC1 RL.
The Stags are in it for the long haul and will improve on and off the field year by year. Of that I'm sure.
As for South Wales getting hammered - firstly the Skolars are a very good team and I'd tip them for 4th this season, although many watchers of them down here have them as first or second - unconvinced by that myself but would be very happy to be proved wrong. The Scorpions themselves are treating the NRC as their preseason and have said as much, yesterday it would seem they just came up against a decent side who are ahead of them in terms of preperation for the season.
Good luck to all 9 teams for the season and may you all still be going strong in 2014.

I have seen a bit of CC1 and I think 4 or 5 of the established teams are country miles ahead of Stags and Glos. I can see Stags growing over the years and that is great. I can't see how the Glos model will allow them to. They did look very small, I am guessing the average age is very young? I hope I am wrong but just can't see how they can come close to being competitive. I didn't say it was woeful. I really enjoyed it and thought some of the tries were very skillful. I just think that you have to put this in context.

Was there much advertisment of the game locally? Getting the local community involved would be a wise move I would think. I will certainly go and see them again this season, especially with the view from the bar providing a free directors box feel!!!

Superb view from the bar with the added bonus of the radiators on full go. I managed to resist the temptation though!
I agree the Stags are behind a lot of the established clubs but think that must be a given for this season. I saw Gateshead beat them in a friendly the other week but then again Thunder have strengthened so not sure how to take that as a marker for things to come.
The All Golds were a bit small - did see a few hulking lads knocking around the stands in the gear though so maybe they were missing some of their forwards through injury. I guess as time goes on they'll go with the lads coming through University and fill any holes with experienced lads from up north. I think the All Golds are a special case in that I get the impression that they very much see themselves as a player pathway through to the higher ranks whilst clubs like Hemel and Oxford will be setting their sights on competing at a higher level themselves

yes, I had seen that. Still we're trying to divine the future from a limited selection of entrails at the moment! Even if the Stags go up to Spotland and lose by,for example,50 or 60 points against a team with several talented Saints players in it then it's still no shame and doesnt detract from the long term plans of the club. I will eat my hat, and anybody elses, if Hemel lose by 100 points to a CC1 team this season.
As a conversational aside I was at the Hornets 92-0 stonking of Runcorn many a moon ago, them were t'days!

I was there when Rochdale stuck 98 on York without reply. I don't remember those days quite as fondly...

I've since bumped into Leo Epifania (at North Sydney Oval, coaching Western Suburbs) - he remembers it too!
