I was going to ask how the World Club Challenge was received - if at all - in Melbourne and am glad to have been alerted to this by Andy Wilson. It is a marvellously written piece with one or two forgivable inaccuracies.

And so much better than that Times article referenced on these pages a couple of weeks ago which began with the allusion to cloth caps and whippets...

Good stuff - thanks for the link. :)

Between the optimist & the pessimist
The difference is quite droll:
The optimist sees the doughnut,
The pessimist sees the hole.

It's good to see that the Aussies think the "old fashioned" Carnegie Stand design goes back to the 19th Century...!

Liked the comment that RL survives/thrives on being in a constant state of crisis!

Melbourne cops a lot of stick but it is a true sports loving city with a cracking newspaper like the Age. This is the kind of article you can expect; penned by a decent writer who doesn't really get rugby league but has the class to write about it with respect. Actually I'm not giving the bloke credit - he "gets" the game better than any number rah journos who have the head start of being "rugby" experts.

Nice to see a bit of imaginative writing! Great article

"Any intelligent fool can make things bigger, more complex, and more violent. It takes a touch of genius -- and a lot of courage -- to move in the opposite direction."

"Imagination is more important than knowledge."

"We can't solve problems by using the same kind of thinking we used when we created them."

"Great spirits have always found violent opposition from mediocrities. The latter cannot understand it when a man does not thoughtlessly submit to hereditary prejudices but honestly and courageously uses his intelligence."

Small gripe... but when is a team 'it' and not 'they'?

When the team is a singular thing and the players within it the plural?
