Clearly the DVS should be demolished and rebuilt as a rugby stadium but does this mean we should sign the petition or not?

If you want to sign, sign.
If you don't want to sign, don't sign.

Simple.

If the quoted figure of £40 million is right, in the current economic climate I reckon there's about as much chance of it going ahead as there is of me being selected ahead of Billy Slater in the Australian side next autumn.

The plot the DVS is sat on is worth a small fortune to a developer.

Yeah but the petition doesn't say "Please turn the DVS into a rugby stadium", it says "Please save it" presumably in its current state.

You would think so, but I'm sure the council will have looked at this option. My understanding is that due to its location (close to Meadowhell), it would be of next to no use for retail, the area around it is run down and therefore not attractive to builders of posh flats, and for any builder to go for affordable/social housing they would want big subsidies. Regenerating it into a mixed-use site featuring a school/college, stadium, other sports facilities, sports science centres etc makes more sense and fits in with what's already there - e.g E.I.S

Wembley are always looking to stage the odd game, Tim.

And the Eagles have quite a good win/loss ratio at that venue. ;)

The Indy this morning reported it in fair detail but noted that provision would be made for the city's two rugby teams. Uh?

Hallam Eagles will be up at Bawtry Road by that point - just DVS this season, I think.

From what I gather, both teams will be at Sheff United's ground this year

Highly unlikely.

Just what I've heard, with the Conference South team playing as a curtain raiser for the Eagles when the home fixtures tie up.

That was a few months ago I heard this though, so the idea may have been scrapped to be fair

Jeez - the first team are lucky to get to play there. United would have kittens if we ran two games.

Not enough dressing rooms anyway. You definitely heard wrong - though, it could happen at DVS, I suppose.

Don Valley is a soulless champagne socialist built dump that should have pulled down ages ago with the bill being sent to all the barmy idiots on the council who sanctioned the place to be built for the world student games in the first place:)

I Agree completely it wont be missed by me
