I want to set up a Twitter account for our rugby club.
Any advice or tips on doing it properly?
I already run the Pitchero based website - can it be linked?

Setting up a twitter account is a doddle. Do it at https://twitter.com/signup - I'd suggest using the club name as the username to keep things simple, and then make sure you follow @rlworld and we'll follow you back! :)

I'd also recommend following these other LPL twitterers for starters, then as many other RL journos/clubs/players/local media as you can find. Some if not all will follow you back and then just keep it rolling by tweeting interesting stuff about your club as and when it happens. Also download TweetDeck to keep track of your tweets, follows and messages.

I've never used Pitchero but a quick Google search suggests that you can link to your twitter account.

Hope this helps.

Many thanks John. I have my own twitter account but was a bit hesitant about running a club account.

I shall follow your good advice!

My only advice would be don't stop tweeting if your losing! You'd be amazed how many clubs do, so you end up summising they've lost, but never know by how many!

Thanks Shrek, good point.
Having written many hundreds of press reports I know how strong the temptation to stop and go home can be at times!

First up, tell us your account name and everyone here will link up with you.

Then, show potential sponsors that you have many Twitter followers.

I'm sure you'e lad will have it sorted tomorrow, but we're all here if you need help

If you add # to a word, or continuous link, people can click that hash tag link and find all tweets that include it, thereby finding all relevant tweets

For example #rugbyleague If you already have a twitter account, type this in the search box and you will go to a page where every tweet with that hash tag are listed

If you used #rugby league you would only find all those with #rugby in them as you have a gap

So, if you wanted to find all tweets about John Rhino, or start a list, you would put #JohnRhino in your tweet and encourage others to use it

I started a separate account for a quiz - MNRLquiz- and asked people to give their answers and include #mnrlquiz so I could see their answers
