A report by Andy Wilson on the Guardian website has Danny Brough being omitted from a longer (unreleased) 40-man squad - and with an offer to switch back to Scotland's ranks...

But look at the other 13 that havent been names. Mark Calderwood and Lee Smith jump off the page straight away.

And the returnees in the main are forwards too. Somewhat of an outside backs rejuvination, which I thought may happen at the time, I think the next big push will be on half backs. But look at the other 13 that havent been names. Mark Calderwood and Lee Smith jump off the page straight away.

Sorry to jump back a bit but Danny Brought has been consistently top drawer - he has lost that moodiness that he had exhibited
To omit him and tell him to go back to Scotland is tantamount to a punch in the face. To leave off the player who is simply our best kicker and creative halfback is a coach who can't see past his pet players

I have to agree. Too many, even in here will judge players based on 5 years ago.Sorry to jump back a bit but Danny Brought has been consistently top drawer - he has lost that moodiness that he had exhibited

With Scotland being my 2nd team in the WC I hope he does go back to them and prove a point (even though I dont like players changing sides)

Lets have a look at the semi final line up from the '08 WC vs a Probable '13 line up
2008 WCSF.......Vs..........Likely '13 Team
1. Wellens....... Vs..........1. Tomkins
2. Gardner..........Vs.........2. Charnley
3. Gleeson........ .Vs.........3. Watkins
4. Senior........ Vs.........4. Reed
5. Calderwood.....Vs.........5. Hall
6. McGuire....... ..Vs.........6. Sinfield
7. Burrow.......... Vs.........7. Chase
8. Graham..... Vs.........8. Crabtree
9. Roby............. Vs.........9. Roby
10. Peacock.......Vs........10. Graham
11. Westwood... Vs........11. Westwood
12. Ellis............. Vs........12. Ellis
13. Purdham... Vs........13. Burgess
14. Pryce......... Vs........14. Burrow
15. Morley...... ...Vs.......15. Morley
16. Higham.........Vs.......16. Hill
17. Wilkin..... ..Vs........17. Hock
Personally, I think this team would beat the '08 version quite comfortably. The 3/4 line looks much more dangerous and the current 6/7 combo offers more direction than McGuire/Burrow did at the time. The bench is where we are much stronger though. I think that team can compete. It probably wont win anything, but it isn't as bad as what a lot of you are making out. Add to that the 18-23 compared to the rest of the '08 squad and it looks like we have massively improved in the "player pool"

Ablett
Jeeze England are desperate
An 18yr old on his SL debut made him look stupid last Friday, just imagine what world calss centres like Inglis & Morris will do to him. Even worse if he ends up having a yard dog like Cockayne as his winger.

Yes them 5 would be shown the door for meAblett, Wilkin JJb, Chase, Mcguire .
Ablett = Average Joe
Wilkin= Amazed he keeps getting selected
JJB =Maybe 3/4 years ago but not now
Chase = Headless chicken and he aint English
McGuire= Main attribute pace but now gone
I'll add that if the squad is based on current form how come Ellis who aint played a game yet gets selected and Mossop who is out injured for weeks and was way overrated in the first place are in.
Sinfield being the golden boot

The Aussie and Kiwi second rowers are no doubt shitting themselves at the prospect of facing Carl Ablett...I would imagine he'll be used in the forwards.
