The one I remember is playing Leeds on a mid-week afternoon during school time,I managed to get a free ticket from Gordon street school not sure if match was played at that time due to the power cuts ? Or if we had a back log of matches due to a bad winter plus the fact we didn't have floodlights at the time,ps I think we beat Leeds that afternoon in a scrap book somewere in my loft.

A free ticket..... then a fan for life. I wonder how many of the people taking advantage of the FevforaFiver will end up lifelong fans after attending tomorrow? ;)

Gordon Street school whow! That was foriegn territory when I was a kid. Over the railway lines and beware. Bull Anderson, Butch Barker etc. Then we had to look out for Goodies gang in the new houses and check our passports if we wanted to go to the Lister Hall, Squares swimming baths. Was working hard so couldn't attend that match anyway. I reckon Mark's your man.

I'm sure we played Swinton in a midweek game and I think we drew 8 apiece not sure whether that was in the 60's or 70's.

I remember one re arranged game versus leeds that kicked off midweek at 3-30 , it was a cup game I believe in between 1977-1981 because I was at charleston high school and I had to bunk off early

Right, this is a bit before my time, so really I have no idea.

At first I thought this game may have taken place during the 74 strike, with the 3 day week on and electricity cuts. But that makes little sense as Rovers had no floodlights anyway before 1984. 3.30 start suggests spring time, maybe a re-sheduled game because of the Cup.

We played a midweek game v Leeds in March 1974 just before the Cup semi-final that year. Could that be it?

I remember this match we scored in the last seconds to make a draw we should have lost that one it was before we had floodlights and ended up playing in the dark.

Back to you then Mark I will go for 1974 remember my dad went with 5 mins left because he couldn't make out the players ( he was struggling with his sight at the time) and we were playing so bad so when I got home and told he we had made a draw he did not believe me lol

I have a complete list of Rovers games from 1921-22 to 1993-94 on a disc purchased from the Rugby League Collectors' Federation. it is a time consuming job looking for a needle in a haystack but I will have a go tomorrow if nobody finds the answer in the meantime. .I have looked at 1973-74 without success.

You didn't need to buy them. You can get them for free. They are the old RKC lists.

The famous Swinton match referred to was played Friday 3 April 1970, and ended 8-8. Awesome memories some posters have!! On the Sunday we went to Doncaster.

Actually I didn't, but I couldn't spell acquired. I would be interested to know where the freebies are.
It does say on the front *Due accreditation is given to Irvin Saxton and the Rugby League Record Keepers' Club, from whose booklets these lists have been reproduced".

I think we might have played Leeds on a mid-week afternoon around February or March 1978. I couldn't go because I'd just got promotion in my job and had to move to Leeds, had no leave left and couldn't get the time off. I was working in Hunslet for the first month with a Leeds fan, and I seem to remember that he went? I could be wrong though, memory plays tricks after 35 years, it could have been early evening after the clocks went forward?
