steve75
Premier Sports Performance of the Week – Barrow Raiders Barrow Raiders looked set to slide to a sixth straight defeat of the season when they trailed Dewsbury 0-22 – only to mount a stirring comeback. Darren Holt’s side scored six unanswered tries to record their first win of the campaign and climb off the foot of the table. “It means a lot to get on that first rung of the ladder and get the monkey off our back,” Holt said. “I’ve been saying this since the first game – we’ve got a young squad and they needed to come out of themselves. “Before it’s been like they were too shy and scared to impress, but once the forwards started to go forward we saw some real belief. The challenge now is to bottle that up and have it every week.” Haggerty named Championship Player of the Week Kurt Haggerty is the Premier Sports Player of the Week after scoring a hat-trick of tries in Barrows Raiders’ 36-22 win over Dewsbury Rams. Haggerty’s performance was a key factor in Barrow claiming their first Kingstone Press Championship victory of the season, and coach Darren Holt has double reason to celebrate after the Raiders were also awarded the Performance of the Week. Each week every coach in the Kingstone Press Championship - and Championship One once it begins - is consulted to help select both a Premier Sports Team of the Week and Player of the Week A top five will then be formed for the individual award, with the points awarded counting towards the Championships’ Player of the Year accolade. The weekly awards will also see a team performance and try of the round selected, while inclusion in the Premier Sports Team of the Week will count towards the end of season selections for the two competitions.
