I didn't ask about breakaway. Not that it makes much difference but I will assume this is the non RLEF sanctioned governing body

I think he meant to type a comma or full stop after no breakaway to indicate they ARE the breakaway group.

r-Evolution League: Semi-Finals and Grand Final after record participation

The reigning three time Italian champions and the new "surprise". The Gladiators Roma and Falchi (Falcons) Pian del Bruscolo are two of the four remaining clubs left for the national semi-finals or "Final Four" of the r-Evolution League (FIRFL) on July 13 and the Grand Final on July 14 in Rome (at the campi dell'Acquacetosa) that will award the 2013 title.

The capitolini are among the founding teams of rugby league 13. "We have three or four guys out through injury – Scrum-half Riccardo Marini says, one of the leading players of the Gladiators-but i am convinced that the guys who will replace them will rise to the occasion. On the other hand we have won the last three titles of Federleague and want to repeat this year, dropping the "poker", knowing full well that it will be tougher than usual because Albinea, Falchi and Catania (Rectores Belpasso) are teams with greater (increased) level. " The 13-a-side code has grown visibly in recent times. An increased interest in this sport and we realize tangibly – Marini-confirmed, I hope that we can continue to create enthusiasm and involvement around this code".

With not much "pressure" on the new team of Pian del Bruscolo Falchi (Northern leaders) , they go to Rome with the aim of having fun – underlines the club's manager Ivan Federici -"we will be a great experience. We had our first experience in Rugby a 13 and we avoided finishing last in our group. Now we can even play the finals, so we will have a positive result. We will try to bring in as many players as possible although they rise in our area we have to contend with the summer work commitments of our players: here no one is professional, you play amateur but a strong passion for rugby. On the other hand for the Falchi we have a project with clear ideas, focus on youth – says Federici – and with two feeder relationships teams from Pesaro and Misano. Technically it came out a good mix, but the intention is to create a top-class youth set up."

After an increase from 5 to 9 clubs from 2012 to 2013, the FIRFL's tier one competition doubled in participated matches to 18, a record for championship level since rugby league re-started in Italy. There also saw some junior rugby league matches played before Campionato matches and even a reserve level match between Real Albinea and Misano, while Ceprano (Frosinone) will play a friendly versus Falchi Pesaro also. FIRFL has over 2000 participants and 56 affiliated clubs with three tiers, along with initial growth in junior league matches and 4affiliated women's teams this year.

this looks like some really good work. Can you tell me why there is the need to set up a different organisation to FIRL? Are any of your players eligible for the world cup?

http://www.leagueunl...football-league original statement

I think the lack of domestic activity and focus was a major reason but it has improved from both sides, it looks like firl have a 3 week competition, one conference only played 1-2 weeks.

None are eligible however I think the RLWC playing squad will have all professional/semi pro players from Australia, France and UK. I.e there is probably easily 30-40 from NRL, super league, France, cc and cc1 and qcup/nsw cup

Seriously, if anyone from the rlef, or rlif has any sense, put these guys in charge if the Italian game. Thu are growing the game IN Italy and they are Italian using Italian players!
Of the breakaway comps in both Italy and the USA, both are growing the game domestically in a much more professional, transparent and successful way. Someone in charge if the rugby league hierarchy needs to seriously look at this. You can't force a merger, but you can back the team who is doing right by the game and the country they represent.

thanks for those words.

aside from the normal sources. We have managed to get the finals mentioned on major rugby websites in italy that normally only promote union (with some odd xiii mentions like benjiI to union, sbw etc) and brief mention in a major Italian sports newspaper today!! papers here are generally focused on soccer so there might be a couple of pages left. hoping sport italia will attend to cover our event for their news program. Semi finals played yesterday.... Resulting in Gladiators Roma going for the fourth title vs new boys Falchi Pesaro at CONI Olympic preparation centre in Rome. Great field by the way. Magnifici Firenze play Rectores Belpasso (Sicilian team) for third ranking

A lot of photos and video content on our facebook page as well

Big moment with The number one sports newspaper in Italy giving us brief mentions today in the national edition and Friday in the Roman edition! Also tv filming per-game warm ups and games for semi finals yesterday

r-Evolution League Grand Final receives National Media Coverage

The capital franchise has won their fourth consecutive Championship organized by the Federazione Italiana Rugby Football League at the end of the Final Four that were played on the weekend in Rome in the Coni dell’Acqua Acetosa facility. After conquering Magnifici Firenze clearly in the semi final with a score of 64-0, the Gladiators faced the biggest surprise packet in the Grand Final of the IV r-Evolution League, the Falchi of Pian Del Bruscolo (Pesaro/Misano), only rookies in Rugby League 13 this season but already highly competitive and capable of beating the Rectores Catania 48-26 in the previous day.

It was a thrilling final, played in front of a beautiful setting, with the new Italian team forcefully taking on a 18-6 lead before the more experienced Gladiators made their comeback striking the Falchi defense continually in one second half period who than made the decisive try through Simone Martellucci with 4 minutes to go.  The result was 42-36 in the end for the reigning champions but a large applause for the defeated in the usual hallway corridor that accompanied the team, before a presentation for both sides and a "terzo tempo".

In a great few days boosting the awareness of Rugby League, the FIRFL had a small brief and poster in the Friday edition of the Roma edition of Gazzetta dello Sport (#1 sports newspaper in Italy) before the finals and a small brief on Grand Final day of the national edition of Gazzetta dello Sport. Whilst aside from the normal online coverage pre and post finals, a match report in the major Italian newspaper on Monday July 15 in the Roma edition of Corriere dello Sport. The Semi Finals and Grand Final were filmed by Sport Italia tv for their news program (a major FTA sports channel).

In the third and fourth place match in hot conditions Magnifici Firenze imposed on Rectores Catania to record a score of 32-26.

FIRFL on growth and announce new national Italia U17 team

"It was a great festival  – says the FIRFL General Secretary, Pierluigi Gentile - honoring the winners Gladiators Roma who managed to win their fourth consecutive title, but was really extraordinary  was the performance in the final (and the entire season) of the Falchi who played great throughout. We were happy and positively surprised by the large following that took place in the two-day finals at the Acqua Acetosa, with the field 1 forum possessing a completely crowded stand.

It is the further signal – remarks Gentile-o f an important growth path that has led us this year to a exponential increase of the club and the members of our movement, in addition to see rise from six to nine teams participating in the Italian Championship. But our work must continue even more and we are convinced to move toward our ambitious target to double the current number (of clubs in the national championship). With this In mind, the movement's growth is coming from another "historic" appointment to the Federleague: this Sunday in Avezzano will be held the first meeting of the National Under 17 Rugby a 13 coached by Sebastian Velazquez and Gigi Ferraro and curated by the national youth activity coordinator Massimo Nicotra.

In the morning – explains Gentile - there will be a meeting and a training session between youth players from all over Italy and in particular from Florence, Reggio Emilia, Pesaro, Rome, Tivoli, Roma (front of Gladiators and Rome 5th, ndr), Catania and Acireale. In the afternoon, at 4pm, will be played a game between two selections, the Italy "probable" against Italy "possible". Another grand festival for our Federation.
