I am seriously thinking of ditching Sky Sports.

9.99 a month for 7 NRL games, plus a Championship game, plus World Cup.

20 odd for Sky Sports for 2 SL games, many of which are poorly matched games.

I wonder what the Sky reaction would be to any sort of mass cancellation? Ditching SL all together?

They would simply back another filler sport between the end of the football season/restarting, more cricket, more summer pre season football comps?

I would guess that Sky bid low thinking that the RFL/IMG would just take them up on the offer anyway. Sky then pulled out to call their bluff but they just went with PS instead

I think you are probably right.

Also sky will have calculated how many EXTRA subscribers the cup would pull in. They probably already have as many as possible so the answer is, not many.
They have probably saved money.

The only way to help the sport is he we all cancel after the grand final and open a premier subscription. The minimum contract is only two months and sky will probably make you an offer to get you back by the time the season comes around.

Just to be clear, with the group stage having doubleheaders on Saturday and Sunday and Monday night matches that means the world cup will be going up against four of the weekly Premier League slots.  This will limit the casual audience as most football fans will still watch that, at least when it is not an England match, so this will have also been part of Sky's thinking.

True and may affect the number of pubs showing the games, thoughof course many pubs no longer have Sky so might work in our favour

See Sky are now only showing 6 of the 7 games from Magic Weekend. Wakefield v Cas appears not to be on. Seems odd to show the others but not this one. An error their website maybe?

It'll probably be on red button or something.
