....that easy.

The need for balance and versatility means that some talented lads are likely to miss out. Our pack has the potential to be even more monstrous than usual; our backs look stronger than in a very long time; the only slight worry is the lack of a proven world class halfback but that's offset slightly by Widdop's emergence as a top level five-eighth in the NRL.

Anyway, for what it's worth, here's my 22:

1) Tomkins
2) Briscoe/Charnley
3) Watkins
4) Reid
5) Hall
6) Widdop
7) Brough
8) Graham
9) McIllorum
10) Mossop
11) Ellis
12) Farrell
13) S Burgess ©

14) G Burgess
15) Westwood
16) Hock
17) Sinfield

18) Roby
19) Crabtree
20) O'Loughlin
21) Hardaker/Goulding
22) Ratchford

Not as easy as you think, and lots of very good players on the outer!

It's harder than you realise you still haven't done it. ( ;

I think he means you have named 24 players in your 22 !!!!!!!!!!!

I remember when .............................

"It is impossible not to feel a twinge of sympathy for Workington Town, the fall guys this season for the Super League's determination to retain it's European dimension, in the shape of Paris. While the French have had every assistance to survive, the importance of having a flagship in a heartland area like West Cumbria has been conveniently forgotten." - Dave Hadfield - Independent 25th August 1996.

Don't really see there being much of an argument for starting McIlorum over Roby. All that Micky Mac brings to the table which Roby doesn't is hot-headedness.

No Roby in the 17 would be criminal! As would one prop on the bench.

I'd go with:

1. Tomkins
2. Charnley
3. Watkins
4. Reid (although not seen much of him, just can't recommend anyone else at present!)
5. Hall
6. Widdop
7. Brough
8. Graham
9. Roby
10. Mossop
11. Westwood
12. Farrell
13. S. Burgess

14. G. Burgess
15. Crabtree
16. Hock
17. Sinfield

18. Briscoe
19. Ellis
20. Hardacre
21. Carvell
22. O'Loughlin

I see! Only put Charnley/Briscoe as TB has been injured. There's not room for both in squad.

Same with Hardaker/Goulding; we need someone who can cover across the back line; Hardaker edges it for me but, again, he's been out.

If everyone's fit Goulding and Charnley miss out.

McIllorum is a much better all-round hooker for my money; I could happily pick Roby over Sinfield though.

There's no way he'll pick 3 specialist wingers in a 22 man squad though. Hall is a certainty, so it'll be either Briscoe or Charnley not both.

I'd hate to try and guess McNamara's thought process, but I'd suggest you also need a Kurt Gidley type player who can cover multiple positions well. For my money, Ratchford or Lomax offer the most versatility, whilst both being outstanding players in their own right.

I see you're point about props but is it such an issue with Big Sam at 13? Particularly when Hock and Westwood could both put in a shift in the front row.

The hardest thing once you pick your 17 is trying to cover your bases with your remaining five squad places.

Leave McLorum and Hock off unless you want to give plenty of penalties away

Chris Hill would be in my squad, he hasn't been quite as good this season but i think he will have a strong finish to the year, also what does Leroy Cudjoe have to do to get a mention ?

I think he is by far England's best all round centre, he is an attacking threat, he sets up his winger and is good in defence.

Matty Smith also a chance for halfback ?

Thought is was a 24 man squad? LE mentions Tim Sheens as stating that the 17 men he used for the ANZAC test have on foot in the squad then with the 18th man it leaves only 6 places for him to bring in younger players.

For what it's worth, I'm not sure who'd I'd leave out but I like Burrow on the bench.

McNamara talks about having his scoring system when reviewing players during games both here and in the NRL, jokes aside, I'd love to know what that is.
