It does indeed, and I completely agree it should start with the two Grand Finalists. My only reservation comes from earlier forum proposals was that perhaps New Zealand Warriors and Catalan Dragons should face off as the 5th and 6th clubs, however I don't think it's right teams be gifted a WCC fixture.

Interesting times ahead.

I'm with you on that - Grand Finalists and the next available highest finisher at the end of the regular season would be my preference :)

The bit about Lenegan is more interesting TBH. Let the speculation being about the other 7 Wigan expect to lose, Charnley being the obvious one.

Same. This would guarantee the League Leaders/Minor Premiers would be in the competition.

I like the idea of a warm up game for clubs as well.

I would like the CC winners to get in this as well

What if a team do the double?

... and what's your choice for NRL equivalent?

Europe: 2 GF teams plus CC winner.

If a team does the double, 2 GF teams plus highest league placement

Southern Hemisphere: 2 GF teams plus highest league placement

... however, I really like the idea of having the League Leaders' guaranteed a WCC fixture, it adds more to the Shield IMO.

In that case, CC winner, GF winner and LL winner. Though they could all be the same team!

It's not our fault the Aussies have no cup competition

I'm torn whether it should be either the Cup winner or the losing Grand Finalist in the event of a double...

losing cup finalists would be better to give CC more edge

It probably is actually, no doubt the Cup is older than the Aussies playing the game.

SL:

Rank 1 (GF Winners)

Rank 2 (GF Losers)

Rank 3 (LLS, Challenge Cup Winners, next highest in ladder - in that order).

I'd go with that.

Just to be clear (oh God, I've said it!), you'd work down this list until you've gotten 3 teams:
1) Grand Final winners
2) Challenge Cup winners
3) League leaders
4) Grand final runners up
5) Highest placed remainder

Covers all the bases, me thinks!

Sounds about right!

As long as there's a structure laid out beforehand :D
