Well, I said at the start of the thread that we would lose and alas, I was proven correct.  Once again Brown put extra pressure on the side by needlessly changing people around so nobody knew what anybody else was doing.  He is a first class idiot in that respect.  And once again our senior players were lazy asses who don't deserve the wage they feel so comfortable about getting.  Our best players were yet again our youngest players but they can't be happy.

You  may remember a few Fartown  fans telling you what to expect from Nathhan, He seems to see big similarities between League and chess.

Well done Widnes by the way, they keep coming up with a good one.

Well done Widnes for displaying some entertaining rugby league. As for Saints, at one point the players were ambling back to form a scrum when urgency was needed. As well as this, too many passes going astray, especially into touch, as well as bunching up instead of spreading out. Overall, the Saints are a side looking like lost souls.

We made the wrong appointment in Brown and got the recruitment wrong with the likes of Perry and Hohaia. I think the appointment of mike rush is key to avoiding repetition of these errors. For now give Brown the season but be prepared for the mother of all clear outs in october
Rugby League is a sport that desperately needs to expand its geographical supporter base and its player base. This imperative means that all other requirements are secondary until this is done.

All power in the game should be with governing bodies, especially international governing bodies.

Without these actions we will remain a minor sport internationally and nationally.

That's coz nobody knows where they are playing until they walk out on the pitch (pretty much).

I think this is the key. Personally, I think need a big clear out of senior players and staff.

They seem convinced Saints is a "big club" but have forgotten all the things that they used to do that made Saints a big club. Purely from the outside, they seem really stagnant.

That's me.  I'm done.

Stagnant is an appropriate adjective.

Who to keep is a shorter list than who to lose.

Who to keep is a shorter list than who to lose.

Think all players off contract should be allowed to leave - get rid of the dead wood. Likes of Perry, Pulutua, Laffranchi, Wellens, Meli and Gardner need to make way for new signings who can play with passion and pride. The only god thing this season has been the emergence of the likes of Walmsley, along with Percival and Thompson. Our youth development is still decent, think we should look at bringing in a 6,7 and 13 and leave the rest to youngesters to make up for next season. Throw Adam Swift back on one wing, Makinson on the other with lomax at F/back. Maybe even look at a few more 'championship' forwards to give us some grunt.

"is a dream a lie if it don't come true or is it something worse?"

Is jack Owens something special?

yes a fantastic young player who will get better and better as will joe mellor, him and kevin brown ran the show last night and layed the platform for a historic win.
"Why is Napoleon crying ?" said one sailor to the other, "poor ###### thinks he's being exiled to st helens" came the reply.

Good win by Widnes and pleasing to see a youngster like Jack Owens doing so well given his limited experience at Super League level.  Also good to see another youngster Danny Craven back after being missing since first league match due to injury.

Unfortunately I didn't make the game but it sounded like an incredible win. My one semi-criticism is that we sounded so dominant that we should have ended the game comfortable winners. It was almost like we gave them too much respect.

When we last left Super League they were the one team that we hadn't beaten. However, despite getting that monkey off our backs there are now 2 more that we have never beaten. I eagerly await the visits of Catalans and Hull KR to the Stobart later this year...

Was mentioned on the NRL coverage that the Penrith scrum half Walsh I think was being released at the end of the year to link up with Saints. Not a world beater but at least he's a genuine half back.

This apparent signing has been mentioned in a few places but as yet no word from Saints themselves.  I doubt any world beating halfbacks would be available but even if they were they would likely be too expensive.

Walsh would potentially be a fine signing, certainly as good as we could hope for at present.  Lets wait and see though, the rumour has gathered a lot of momentum so will hopefully prove to be true.

The spine of any team is your 1, 6, 7, 9 & 13 and sadly Saints dont have any good players in those positions at the moment. Having Lomax, Roby & Wilkin back to fill 3 of the positions wll certainly help but without a good 6 & 7 they're not going to really challenge the top clubs this year.

Add in the loss of Soliola (who's been far & away our best forward this year), our most potent finisher in Meli and the serious underperformance of the likes of Hohia, Perry & Puletua, and Saints are always going to struggle.

On the plus side, the experience the youngsters are getting will help the 1st team in years to come. I've been really impressed with Percival, Walker, Swift & Thompson and they certainly have bright futures.

This season is a write off but with 2-3 astute signing (half backs & prop), Saints will be back up there next year challenging for honours.
