Underneath the slopping grass it was packed with coal shat/slag that made for sharp rubbings into knees and elbows! Served us right for not paying attention to the match our dads paid us in to see.

Front row, 6th from left is that Batley legend, perennial winner of the "Most loyal player of the season", and father of Jonny - Steve Presley.

Mick Wilson (possibly) front row centre??

Third left front row is Kevin Cousens, 4th is Render, 5th is Mick Wilson, then it is indeed Steve Pressley, who went on to referee I do believe.

He did indeed, DD.

He was in charge of the CC when it was played at Murrayfield. I got to the ground early - the match officials were warming up. Prez saw my Batley shirt and did a double-take.

Pressley did indeed go on to be a referee. He then went on to become a video ref. He was the video ref for our 'Play off Final' against Dewsbury at a Widnes.

kevin Cousins and Render next to each other on the front row. I am not sure that is Derek Arnold either on the back row.

If this game was against Bradford Northern, there's a possibility that it was in the 1972-73 season - the last campaign before the two division split. Not sure if we played them at home again during the 70's, although I'm sure someone can offer their wisdom to clarify things. For the record, if this was during the 72-73 season, we did the double over Bradford with a 15-16 win at Odsal and an 18-17 win at at The Mount.
