I don't actually agree with the death penalty. I am just finding that a lot of the arguments I used to use against it don't necessarily stack up.

What arguments don't stack up?

Just my own opinion and my own personal thoughts. Saying things like 'it won't stop murder being committed'. Yes but we can apply this thinking to anything if we want.
And innocent people being killed. ..as I said before many innocent people are killed by released murderers. ...is that not an innocent life lost that is effectively a miscarriage of justice?

That isn't an argent against the death penalty, rather a rebuttal to an argument for the death penalty.

How is it? If the repeat offenders had been executed the murdered person would be still alive.
ie they were killed because the state released their killer.

One of the more "liberal" societies has a declining crime rate, whilst Britain may have to build more prisons. We imprison more people per capita than any other european country and yet the perception is that we have more crime. why is that?

Because if we perceive right or wrongly that we have a particularly high crime rate then there is pressure to jail more people. Doesn't make it wrong. The fact that the Dutch can afford to close prisons doesn't make them right either.

whats happened in Shipley last night? hardly made the national news, just another routine murder and the attempted murder of a child, everyday stuff, hardly worth a mention, am sure the person responsible deserves to be well looked after for the next 30 years at our expense anyway.

The guy was arrested about 1/2 a mile from my house. Still no idea what went on.

Fast Show wasn't it?

And when they found our shadows
Grouped around the TV sets
They ran down every lead
They repeated every test
They checked out all the data on their lists
And then the alien anthropologists
Admitted they were still perplexed
But on eliminating every other reason
For our sad demise
They logged the only explanation left
This species has amused itself to death
No tears to cry no feelings left
This species has amused itself to death
