When I played for Yorkshire at schoolboy level it was actually known as East of Penines Vs West of Penines so I'd have no problem with an East vs West other than marketability.

Hardacre Vs Tomkins
Hall Vs Charnley
Atkins Vs Goulding
Cudjoe Vs Watkins
Lynham Vs Riley
Brough Vs Sinfield
McGuire Vs Myler
Crabtree Vs Mossop
Houghton Vs Roby
Walmsley Vs Hill
Ellis Vs Farrell
Westwood Vs Hock
Westerman Vs O'Loughlin

With the North Sea fast eroding away the East coast I think you will find that God put Yorkshire there to stop Lancashire being frayed at the edge.

Haven't you noticed how steep Windy Hill is? It's all downhill from there in more ways than one westbound.

War of the roses East v west sounds great and is a better option then Yorkshire v Lancashire you could also have a east v west under 23s playing along side it as a double header

You joined the Mighty Penguins, then you moved to Huddersfield...

Coincidence? I don't think so.

For any concept to attract the imagination of fans there has to be a strong sense of rivalry. Therefore the only genuine option we have is Gods Own Country v Wankyshire (see, the name calling can start already).

It seems the real issue is supporters/rfl not having the confidence to say "currently this is where the strength of our game lies" so build on a strength and if it is promoted and supported other teams can be added in years to come.

From the first game of the season the commentators can start hyping up the game by highlighting players that may be facing each other. As for players born in cumbria/elsewhere they can qualify through which team they are playing for.

The game itself MUST have some relevance. Therefore the Yorks v Lancs game must also act as a test trial with a game against France a few weeks later. Players that make themselves unavailable for the Y v L game (unless with an rfl appointed doctor's advice) would be ineligible for the France game.

I would also look to have a double header with a Y v L emerging teams game. This would also give an opportunity for the leading championship players to put themselves in the shop window. Again the players from this game plus those that miss on selection against France would be chosen to play for the Knights against a combined Celtic team.

As for the name of the contest i loved the War of the Roses.

you could call it the righteous v the ungodly.............lancashire being the righteous.
