Round 15 is a much reduced affair with eight teams enjoying byes this weekend. They all get two league points for resting.

Many of the  top players from the eight teams in R15 are missing too as those players picked to play for the Blues or Maroons are withdrawn from the line-ups.

Talking of Origin 2, we may be getting a much reduced set of games but to make up for this we have QLD v NSW on Wednesday morning live, no doubt repeated later.

PSportsRound15SoO2013_zps5e056723.jpg

Will QLD get revenge for the beating they took in Origin 1?

Will Paul Gallen set about thumping someone in a maroon jersey?

Will there be a warm friendly welcome for the Blues in Brisbane?

What a great game in prospect.

Enjoy your Rugby League :buba:

Hang on...."they all get 2 league points for resting".

Am I missing something here?

OK so I just realised via Wiki, a bye gets you 2 points (?) Seems a bit weird.

I assume all the sides get the same number of byes? And how are they allocated?

Ah it's OK....different bit of Wiki:

In Australia's National Rugby League (NRL), each team has two byes each season. During the representative period of the season (such as the State of Origin), byes are generally scheduled to the clubs that are expected to have the most players involved in the representative match, in the round preceding (or following) the representative fixture, to allow those clubs to sufficiently rest those players and prevent them from fielding a weakened side. On the competition ladder, teams are awarded two points (equivalent to a win) during their bye week.

Still getting to grips with this NRL lark! :)

Sounds like a reasonable approach...

... except that doesn't always work.

In Round 15 you'll see Storm for example are taking the field against Titans without the mainstays of their team - Billy Slater, Cooper Cronk, Cam Smith plus top forward Ryan Hoffman.

Still it does spice things up and throws a kind of random factor into the mix.

It's not good though for consistency or if you are a fan of a club that is affected.

State of Origin is such a big part of the Aussie game that many people see it as a price worth playing.

Origin is so big that I guess it would benefit from being played on three weekends of no NRL fixtures.

That would stretch the season by three weeks though hence the current situation which shows no sign of being changed as far as I can see.

This current RL package from PSTV is now almost the perfect package. It's good that Sky can no longer just cherry pick.

Muggy but overcast here, but the same basic idea - chilled drink but no food though - we're between breakfast and lunch here!
So far we've all gone for the Doggies apart from Barney who's taken the Chooks to win.

"Why have you foresaken us, Barney?"

Enjoy the game mate.

All hail the mighty Barney.

It was he who let the Dogs out.

Roosters toughed out a good win today and only eagle eyed Barney saw that coming.

av-134724.jpg Barney has the last laugh! ... or does he?

As you indicated, Gav there's some great classic Origin footage being shown at various times at the moment.

Good to see PSTV going the extra mile for us.

Just the Monday game left in Round 15.

Gold Coast Titans v Melbourne Storm

This will be a big test for a Storm team on the road with changes in all parts of their team due to absence of key players thanks to Origin selection. Titans too will be missing co-captains Nate Miles and Greg Bird both selected for their respective state sides.

Far from spoiling the game I'm hoping this will add spice to the fixture.

Titans go into this with good form and a half back pairing that can set the game alight.

Storm give opportunities to squad players to try to make their mark on the big stage.

Even Stevens at half time with Storm having taken the lead after Titans had had more of the ball.By half time it was one try all. Both teams are working hard and looking good in attack. The Storm try was a great move finished off by Ben Hampton on debut. Titans had a few chances to score. It was Michael Gordon who grabbed their try.
6-6
1st Half Possession Titans 51%, Storm 49%
