Another US brokered initiative has kicked started peacetalks between the Israelis and Palestinians after a 5 year period of no negotiations between the two sides. I honestly can't see how peace will ever be achieved between Israel and Palestine with Israel not budging on right of return, east Jerusalem and the increasing settlement expansions in the west bank and with Hamas running the gaza strip, but as Churchill said "jaw jaw is better than war war.

I can't see how peace will ever be achieved while most of the Arab and Muslim world hate Israel more than they like themselves.

Although this is true it shouldn't affect the peacetalks and hopefully the eventual conclusion of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

And what happened after the 1978 Israel-Egypt peace agreement? Too many dickheads have a vested interest in seeing everything fail.

On the eve of the renewed peace talks the Israeli government has just announced that 3,100 new homes will be built in the illegally occupied Territory. what a great start to the talks, they could be over before they've even started!

The majority of people on both sides just want a peaceful and (hopefully) prosperous life, but the tooled-up morons and hatemongers are always there to disrupt things.

Just like all the others, these "peace talks" will fail. They are just a sham. The Israelis have absolutely no intention to arrive at any peace deal with anyone.  Mind you, the Palestinians have absolutely no intention to arrive at any peace deal with anyone, either. One denies the right of the state of Israel to exist, the other denies the right of the Palestinian state  to exist.

Israel should make a start by demolishing ALL settlement on illegally occupied territories and the Palestinians should stop trying to destroy Israel.

Will any of them take us nearer peace? Will they ######.

The trouble with Israel v Palestine is that the only thing they can agree on is the stock answer to any criticism, however slight - "Yes, but look what they did".

Guaranteed to kill any discussion and start off a session of "they started it" tennis.

The PLO recognized the state of Israel in 1993(Oslo accords), yasser arafat and yitzhak Rabin shook hands on it on the white house lawn infront of bill Clinton and the worlds press. The major obstacles to peace are the rapidly increasing illegal Israeli settlements, dividing Jerusalem, the right of return, israel moving the goalposts to the palestinians recognizing israel as a "jewish" state and Hamas running the gaza strip.

Not to mention indoctrinating their kids into hating Israelis.

The major obstacle is violence and that largely lies with the Palestinians to solve. If they, both in Gaza and the West Bank, denounce violence, the Israelis wouldn't have a leg to stand on and would have to accommodate the Palestinians. It is currently a vicious circle and only the Palestinians can actually break it.

In October 1973 I was at the Royal Armoured training school Bovington on a tank driving course and at the same time Israeli and Arab army officers where also there training, they had to stop them from going out driver training at the same time because they had started ramming each others tanks on the ranges.

I am not surprised in Oct 73; their home countries were in the process of fighting a particuarly violent war!
