Just wondered of there is any news? Has anything of note happened, will it go ahead?

Interesting but dated. What is the current situation?

There is never anything in the Manchester Evening News or Salford City Reporter. I hope it comes off for the fans sake but it seems to have just been forgotten.

Swinton have recently been issued with a winding-up petition by HMRC, due to be heard on Monday.

"As of 7 June 2011 when the club hosted a fans' meeting at Moorside Social Club, Swinton, the club now confidently expects that the building, of the stadium should commence no later than New Year's Day, 2012 with completion set for the end of April (2012). However, the predicted return date of early 2012 proved to be a somewhat optimistic and premature forecast and, as of August, 2012, there appears to be no immediate starting date for the Agecroft project".

From Wikipedia. Doesn't say who was expected to pay for it.

Thanks, hanging on a thread. Surely there must be someone wealthy in the area who could and should support the club and create a legacy. Perhaps Ryan Giggs might fancy running a sports club now he's got time on his hands !!

His dad was a Swinton legend but I suspect that might not be much of a pull for him.

As per Art's post I can add nobody wealthy now wants to support Hunslet who are very much Yorkshire's version of Swinton. Same for Bramley, York, Rochdale etc. When the businessmen don't want to know this is where the supporters (have to) come in.

Sign of the times, people drift towards supporting the big clubs, business men also follow the trend. Just how things have gone. If Swinton have to pay for the stadium they'll have to think twice being in a relegation spot on crowds such as 518 for Keighley.

They'll also (by the looks of Derwents post) be simply unable to pay for it. Hunslet got the council to provide, but they never saw that provision as providing us our own stadium, just somewhere for us to play to be able to turf us off Elland Road..

The council wont invest, they have received so many complains about the investment in Barton that they wont be able to do it again.

Swinton have played outside the area for such a long time and fans aren't flocking to Salford either.

Shame that a club with the history they have are just fading away.

A cracking result for Swinton.

There were some tight games in the Championship today.

Well done Fax, for digging out a win.

Warrington have money and Swinton are their A team or maybe the management of the Leigh sports village can assist their tenant. Maybe Dr Koukash has a brother.

On a serious note though, I hope they survive. Manchester is big enough for several RL clubs of only they could get back there.

You've got Leeds to prop you up. The Phoenix has gold and yellow plumage.

Oldham got 900 or 1200 depending on who you believe in CC1 in a promotion battle. Swinton got 700, a good attendance for them, for a relegation v championship contender clash.

As for HM tax authorities, what do they get out of killing a dying business who have no hope of paying their tax bill in the short term. Far better for them to structure some long term repayment plan.  The govt. can bail out criminal banks but will crush 100 year old failing sports clubs like unwanted bugs.
