Problem is loyalty gets you nowhere these days. People who nove round in jobs are always on significantly more than their loyal counterparts. RU shows no loyalty yet has all these broadcasters throwing money at them.

They have really good product... we just have a great game.  There is a major difference and its why RU currently have the greater appeal to broadcasters.

First ratings out on barb for B T sports and the first premier league game got 450,000 which was about what it was getting on ESPN so maybe despite all the promotion all they have picked up is their subscribers .

Why?

So it would get into pubs, be in HD, be run with a decent budget and increase the target audience for rugby league.

i assume that BT Sport must have been approached about the World Cup. I would love to know how those discussions went.

Well you're the bloody journalist, go and ask the questions and do some digging.

Around 10,000 for the top rated programme then.

Here we go again. When are people on here going to accept that rugby league is a minor sport played in a few working class towns in the North and even then plays second fiddle to football in most of those towns (not forgetting some students and RU players playing half a dozen games a season in towns across the UK). The league winners this year got between 5000 and 6000 spectators for most of their home games. Few are interested even in 'the birthplace of rugby league'. Why on Earth would BT want to pick it up? So they can be associated with showing games involving RL powerhouses like Italy and USA playing in near empty stadia? I really don't think they are rueing a missed opportunity here. I suspect that they've got a different objective.

Whats patently clear about BT Sport is that unless they're showing their once-a-week live Premier League game, they may as well not be on air.

The new figures posted by Cherry and White once again show almost the same figures from the previous period. A PL game over 400k, a Scottish game over 100k, and that's it.

Being only a month into it should give them some leeway for now, but a business model based around one live PL game isn't ideal.

For all the football fans in this country, BT's offering of Bundesliga or Serie A averages no more than 20k. The bonus for them is that they probably didn't pay much to get those games. With SL, they would have to cough up some money if they are going to prize rights away from Sky, but SL (as shown by figures on Sky) would still be a more value commodity than most of their rights portfolio.

Its not about delusions of grandeur, its about the fact that SL still remains one of the handful of sports leagues that can draw over 100k viewers for a game. It doesn't have to do Super Sunday numbers for BT to be interested.

Not having BT Broadband, am I right in assuming if you have BT Broadband but don't have a Sky subscription you can still watch BT Sport online?

If so I'm guessing for now those figures are excluded from the viewing figures given above, which might be substantial given the relatively low figures quoted for some sports and a broadband user base that was 6 million+ in the last figure I saw quoted.

BT really need some content.  Several evenings in a row the only live sport they have is on ESPN and whilst I'm watching college football, baseball and the AFL I accept I'm not usual in this regard.  Aviva Premiership won't save them - not least because it'll still leave Mon-Thu with nothing doing.  If you're that desperate for women's tennis (which isn't going to be completely year round) it's on Eurosport.
