The Buenos Aires Rugby and Cricket Club have agreed to start Rugby League training as there are plans to get a competition started in 2014.

The Argentina Superliga plans to have up to 4 teams- 2 from Buenos Aires and 2 from Rosario.

Great stuff.

Puzzled by the article - it says that the national team will return too - when did they exist in the first place?

I think Argentina played a representative game against an Aussie police team a few years back.

Yes, they did, in 2005. LINK TO RELATED NEW STORY.

We could play England v Argentina in the Falklands/Malvinas Cup - winner gets naming rights 'til the next tournament. :P

Assuming the do get a national team established, then in time Argentina, Jamaica, Canada and the US could contest an American Championship.

The moe nations in the Americas who take up the game is another step closer to the formation of their own umbrella governing body in the same mould as the RLEF.

The Australian Police played two fixtures in Buenos Aires in March 2005 winning 4-40 and 6-50.  As I recall the Argentine organisation was pretty much a one-man band and was tested to the limit (and perhaps a little beyond) by the logistics of hosting the tour.  If the (or even a) Buenos Aires club are behind the effort this time then it perhaps will have more chance of success.
