My Dad tells me that we were once known as the Jam Jar team. Can anyone throw any light on this and the period it happened?

Cheers

My Grandad was a gateman at Parkside during the 1929 depression. He told me a story that anyone laid off & couldn't afford the gate money could take jam jars along as payment as the jam companies would buy back the empties.

Don't know if it's true or whether it's where the name came from, but it's a nice story.

You and the Whitehaven (jam eaters) supporters should get on well.
