I one went to Wigan Casino wearing my 'cool' cravat but wasn't allowed in: ties only. As quick as a flash, I went back outside and asked a guy if he would swap it for his tie. Job done, I then went in to the amusement of the bouncer.

Titanium bicycles - smart and understated not like the gawdy carbon frame you get now
Campag group sets, not as efficient as shimano but much more class
Rapha cycling clothes expensive but high performance and again smart and understated

The lycra running shorts I bought for a fiver from Compass Point's bargain bin (although my wife and daughter disagree).
