I remember when .............................

"It is impossible not to feel a twinge of sympathy for Workington Town, the fall guys this season for the Super League's determination to retain it's European dimension, in the shape of Paris. While the French have had every assistance to survive, the importance of having a flagship in a heartland area like West Cumbria has been conveniently forgotten." - Dave Hadfield - Independent 25th August 1996.

Tells a tale . Bar Fev no one should be to chuffed with those numbers . We ask where are the fans , but so will most sides . Maybe rose tinted specs but I'm sure more folk used to watch second tier rugby . Must be hard work keeping clubs going , and when the restructuring comes it'll be very tough to compete in the middle group with those numbers . Even the top 3 , with SL ambitions will need a big increase . I thought at the start that we could have been looking at 1,000 this year , and that we deserved that , but it hasn't come unfortunately . Tomorrows crowd will be interesting . I think next year there is scope for evening games under lights .

The overall average attendance for all clubs in the league was 1038 and when cup matches (NR Cup and Challenge Cup) were added that dropped to 923.

Apart from the three Cumbria clubs and Keighley every clubs average dropped when cup matches were added.

I read an article about York . In 2006 their average attendance was 1700 , and they got relegated . A year before in the third tier they averaged nearly 2,000.

Isn't there a daft football match on tomorrow? think this will affect the attendance quite a bit.
