just home, hardly any fingernails left, the last 10 mins shades of the Plate Cup semi final at Widnes ! Thought it was all over at 12-0 early on ( their 2nd try was a blatent push by Brown on Stu Kain in the chase for the ball and should have been a penalty to us) but some great attack mainly by Tommy Coyle brought 4 tries in quick time.A daft mistake led to the usual half time giveaway and when York kicked the touchline goal at 22-18 it looked game on, but John Oakes - a tower of strength in defence today, forced his way over on the stroke of half time. The only downside being 2 easy goal kicks missed which only Hunslet seem to be able to do.
The 2nd half was a war of attricion with only a great try from Welham made by Grimmer and a drop goal from Coyle to put us 33-18 up, you just knew Hunslet being Hunslet would start to fall off tackles and York would come back at us and with prop Nicholson getting offloads for fun away they scored 12 points in no time and threw everything at us late on, however Stu Kain was a rock at full back and we held on. Hunslet had an 18th man today - the fans, never stopped singing and roared the lads on to the end, so good to hear our anthem, Weve swept the seas before Boys, lets have the same wonderful support at Sheffield on Thursday.
