O boy, sometimes I get a "pfft" moment when an actor wants to branch into acting or vice versa. How many have done this? How many have been good at both? Poor at both?

I'll start with Will Smith. (Average at both.)

....and I'll get Adam Faith in before L'ang, Futtocks and Johnoco say him.

Hey..... ;)

When I was about 5 Adam Faith was in a big TV series of the time called Budgie. I only found out he was a singist later on and only knew him as a tv actor.

David Essex, he should have served time on both counts.

Went to see Elysium this afternoon. No actor/singers in that, but they showed a trailer beforehand for a new film due out soon starring 'proper' actor and Oscar winner Ben Affleck alongside that singer chappie Justin Timberlake. It looked quite good. Timberlake was also quite good at the acting in The Social Network, and still sells a lot of records as well. Such talent, makes yer sick it does.

She might not have been a great actress but amazingly she was a better singer - Natalie Imbruglia.

Hugh Laurie was brilliant at both. I mean to buy his blues album some time and he may even have a second one.

Others might disagree but I rate Sting at both as well.

David Jones ( Bowie) and Paul Jones (manfred Mann) both before my time so I can't comment.
Although I would love to see Morrissey on Emmerdale.

Or Roger Daltery playing a gritty imprisoned criminal.

Elvis Presley. His films were on telly all the time when I was a kid.

Frank Sinatra made a fair few films.

The Beatles, but they only ever played themselves which probably shouldn't count.

The productions put on by most amateur dramatic societies and stage schools revolve on at least a 50% proportion of musicals ... every member gets on stage and the large cast promotes a healthy roster of ticket sales derived from friends and family. Thus, the talented young players who graduate to professional status are well grounded in both singing and acting. Throw in a more recent opportunity to be part of a plastic boy band or girl band and you have a welter of actor/singers.

If they are good at both, good luck to them. By and large actors last a lot longer than singers, so better to be a jobbing actor when the sexiness has faded.

I discovered recently that Mandy Patinkin, who played the revenge-obsessed Inigo Montoya in 'The Princess Bride' has also recorded several albums, but I don't know if he's any good.

Joe Pesci recorded an album called 'Vincent Laguardia Gambini sings just for you' and if the only track I've heard (Take your Love and shove it*) is representative, it is not only funny but very very sweary indeed.  :D

Madonna is an even worse actress than she is a singer. Which is a quite remarkable achievement.
