Ince Rose Bridge 10 v 22 Leigh Miners

Leigh Miners picked up a much needed two points last night when they beat local rivals Ince Rose Bridge 22-10 in what was a tough derby match at Pinfold Street. Miners started the better team and looked the more dangerous with ball in hand throughout but with both defences being hard to crack it took until just short of the half hour mark for the first points of the evening to be scored, the points going the way of the visitors when winger Andrew Groves went over on the right after Miners attacked Bridge from a scrum, Jonny Youds converting to make the score 6-0. Miners where in again with five minutes of the half remaining when Jimmy Muir went through a gap to score at the side of the posts, Youds converting to give Miners a 12-0 lead going into the half time break.

Miners knew if they could score first in the second half it could prove too much for Ince to recover from, and they did just that when Darryl Kay barged his way over from close range after fifty minutes, Youds adding the extras to put Miners in command leading 18-0. Rose Bridge replied with a converted try but any chance of a comeback was ended when Andrew Groves went over in the corner for his second of the night after some good work by Scott O'Brien to make the score 22-6 with fifteen minutes remaining. The home side scored a consolation try late on to give the final score 22-10 and give Miners still an outside chance of making the playoffs while Rose Bridge could do with winning their last four home games to have a chance of remaining in the Premier Division.

On Saturday Miners are away at East Hull.
