England Youth coach Stuart Barrow has named his 18-man squad to face Wales Under-16s at Cardiff’s Taff’s Wells RUFC this evening, Friday August 30 (6.30pm). It will be the second time the teams have met in 2013 and it was England who emerged narrow victors with a last minute try sealing a 22-18 win in April and coach Barrow is hoping his side make it two from two against Welsh opposition tonight.

Match report anywhere?

www.walesrugbyleague.co.uk has the report.

England won 18-25 after going 10 -0 up very early on. What the match report doesn't mention is the sheer physical difference between the sides. Wales to a man would have given away around a stone/stone and a half in lean muscle to the English lads. Once this Welsh side develop physically, England will have real trouble coping with them as it was clear that the additional size of the English was a factor in sucking in Welsh defenders to stop the initial drives in the two early tries.

In saying that, as ever, this team gave their all and there were some excellent performances -Ben Jones at FB, the Davies twins at 7 and 13, Matt Owen from the Broncos and second row Jordan Liney in particular for me.

The England coach said that SL clubs should be looking to give an opportunity to these Welsh kids.

They certainly should be, and not just the ones I mentioned above (Matt Owen excepted as he's with the Broncos).

Are most of them not already on the books of a SL club? You'd think Wigan had the ones from South Wales already & The ther Lamcs clubs those form north Wales.

To be fair looking at the England team only 2 players from wigan and 1 from leeds..is a bit of a joke both these teams have been the best two team in the comp for the last two seasons

Wigan certainly looked at couple of the players the other week, but even they only have so many spaces within their set up and as I've stated most if not all of our boys are physically undeveloped compared to their opposition atm...perhaps that may change into next 12 months .....:);)

Maybe the England coaches wanted to open it up and bring on youngsters from other clubs. Without a doubt the pool of players available to the England coaches is far bigger than our coach can call on.

I agree with Penybont Crusader the English team were physically bigger and thinking back to this fixture over the last 8 years or so this is usually the case. Think we'll be rueing the slow start as we more than matched them in the second half.

Teams can work fantastically well together, but to be fair the lads on show for England were better and bigger than the other sides I've seen this year -Wigan, Broncos, Wakefield and Huddersfield.

The score (and the performance) was pretty similar to when the majority of the Welsh side played Wigan the other week so I doubt very much if this was not most if not all of England's top picks in their positions.

Just had some excellent news regarding the futures of two Welsh players from last night. If its true then WRL has a really brighter future than 24 hours ago!
