I won't be watching, it's as bad as Dr Who, but this seems as good a place for those that are to post their critique of some people dancing.

No need to thank me.

I'm a Strictly Come Dancing watcher but this year's line-up is not at all prepossessing.

I can't see how the BBC can risk damaging its showpiece programme with such an end-of-the-pier-show cast of contestants. Especially as its up against the ultra professional X-Factor format.

The producer who has retained Bruce Forsyth, has dumped popular pro-dancers and has now rejected Rebecca Adlington in favour of this lot must be clueless.

On the face of it, there will only be five genuine contenders. The rest will draw lots as to the order of their leaving.

I'll be watching as my wife loves it. That's my excuse and I'm sticking to it! ;-)

Strictly is not my cup of tea, but I usually catch the closing credits as it tends to precede every new episode of the unmissable Doctor Who.

Another good excuse (as if an excuse were needed) to stay safely locked away in the pub until this, and all the other Saturday tea time dross is over.

The line-up in full:

  • Abbey Clancy (model & WAG)
  • Ashley Taylor Dawson (soap star)
  • Ben Cohen (Rugby Union player)
  • Dave Myers (Hairy Biker)
  • Deborah Meaden (Dragons' Den)
  • Fiona Fullerton (actress)
  • Julien Macdonald (designer)
  • Mark Benton (actor)
  • Natalie Gumede (soap star)
  • Patrick Robinson (soap star)
  • Rachel Riley (Countdown)
  • Sophie Ellis-Bextor (singer)
  • Susanna Reid (TV presenter)
  • Tony Jacklin (golfer)
  • Vanessa Feltz (radio presenter)

Pretty low-wattage, in the main. They've been trawling the soap operas.

I actually recognise 11 of those, which for me when it comes to these sort of things is an achievement. Normally I only manage to know of 3 or 4.

The dirty old man in me really hopes that Susanna Reid and Rachel Riley get some early dances that mean they've got to jump up and down a lot in skimpy outfits.

It would be nice, though, If Susanna Reid was in the radio version instead.

I can't stand her voice, so it would have to be the Morse Code version for me.

I'm not a betting man, nor do I care, but I'll plump for Sophie Ellis-Bextor to win it.
