There'd be one team about 50 yards from my house next to a cracking pub.

And 11 others.

To be fair this is what I've got with saints and the Phoenix, although more like 500 yard from my house

Taking the thread at its most literal, going back to 1895, I'd be busting a nut to get the Welsh on board as well as the midlands clubs. The RFU were pushing clubs to the limit in many areas and were really quite unpopular but the fledgling NU just didn't have enough about it to go get the other clubs that were in a bit of trouble at the time.

It's really not outside the bounds of probability that the NU could have made the rump of the RFU led union the minority code of rugby in Britain, never mind England. A few olive branches to the west country and south-west sides and there may have been a quiet coup down that way as well. The code of union might have died a slow lingering death pretending to be amateur leaving a fully competitive professional global code of rugby, formerly called the Northern Union; we may have even allowed the amateur union to associate with us as the amateur side of rugby, if they could swallow their pride.

So... my revisionist Super League would be:

2 x London Clubs, probably Harlequins and Saracens
Bradford
Leeds
St Helens
Wigan
Hull FC
Gloucester
Leicester
Bath
Cardiff
Swansea

No need for a French rugby league side as they'd have their own fully pro league...

Pretty much how I see it. Bradford may not be there anymore though. Probably throw in Wasps.

this thread is about as ridiculous as you can get.............
"Why is Napoleon crying ?" said one sailor to the other, "poor ###### thinks he's being exiled to st helens" came the reply.

Surprised to see so few would want a Cumbrian side, the bus journey isn't that had surely.

Birmingham has a fantastic motorway network, draws on a population bigger than West Yorkshire and has no top-grade rugby union club.

I've always thought Milton Keynes and Brighton would be goers as well.

If there was a Cumbrian side we couldn't nick all the Cumbrians with no one to play for.

Cheer up, RL is actually rather good

I can't believe some of the narrow minded and unrealistic opinions on here.

The 12 can only be:

Cas
Trinity
Fev
Hull (combined)
Bradford Carnegie
Liverpool (Wire/Saints)
Manchester (Salford/Wigan)
London
Lake District
Dublin
Paris
South of France

Some great derbies & away days there

Any thoughts.....

Part of RL's problem is that too many people fantasise about the what ifs.  We've got what we've got, live with it and channel your energy into improving that.

Probably needs a team in Pontefract too in order to balance it ;-)

Assuming starting from scratch means 2014 and a Super League type reboot...

1. Change the name to Leagueball or League Rules Football, anything that doesn't contain the word Rugby, so that expansion overseas isn't hampered by "it's breakaway rugby union" issues.

2. Have a draft system, to make the spread of players more even.

3. 12 teams

London

Salford/Manchester

Hull

Leeds

Wigan

St Helens

Huddersfleld

Catalan Dragons

Warrington

Calder or Bradford

2 expansion clubs:

Toulouse

Milton Keynes or Birmingham (so we have a M62 and M1 focus)

It's too early for South Wales and a second London team unfortunately.

I knew I hadn't thought it through properly... Lets go for 14 teams then & stick a development area team from Las Vegas in there as well....

If Rugby League could start from scratch where would YOU put 12 Super League teams nationwide?

Slaithwaite

Meltham

Newsome

Saddleworth

Greetland

Lindley

Elland

Underbank

Siddal

Waterhead

Huddersfield Giants

Moldgreen

I wouldn't have to travel more than 7 miles from my house to get to any game.

Expansion is over rated anyway.

That's me.  I'm done.

In all honesty, I'd like to see Deighton Woolpack given a franchise.

Ideal 10 team league for me would be:

Fev

Cas

Wakey

Ackworth Jaguars

Upton

Fev Lions

Lock Lane

Cas Panthers

Chequerfield Rangers

Expansion club just near Center Parcs, Sherwood Forest.

I'd never miss a game then
