Warrington have got the club call this year. Just like Tony Smith, I really don't like the idea and I don't blame him saying he wants nothing to do with it,like he said in 2011 when Warrington chairman Steven Broomhead picked Leeds. It's an insult to the opposition team who have worked hard all year to get down to the last 4 of the competition, and picking a team has always been taken as the team with the call is picking who they feel is the weakest team. So well done Leeds who in 2011 and 2012 won their club call matches! Can't we just put 2 balls in a bag and the first one out plays Wigan in the top half of the draw, the other plays Warrington in the bottom half of the draw? So much easier, no insults, no extra motivation to prove someone wrong, and an element of surprise as to who you might actually get to play?

2010 Warrington 30 Leeds 6
2011 League Leaders Shield Winners
2012 Warrington 35 Leeds 18

He needs to man up and take responsibility, slopey shoulders and excuses already and they haven't even played yet!

Is there any reason why Tony Smith couldn't put two balls in a bag and pick the team Warrington will play that way?

I think Im right in saying that every single year the choosing club have gone for the lower ranked team regardless.

If it's Leeds & Hudds this year, Wire might be tempted to buck that trend.

He has said if he's made to do club call he's going to toss a coin. Good on him.

Well it's his choice this year. It would make compelling television...

I wonder whether he has changed his kind because he's scared of playing Leeds as he would have to do if he follows his stated principles? And I suspect that's behind Wilders enthusiasm for the "random" element. Either he meant what he said and will always choose the lower placed team or he has changed his mind through fear or be was lying and chose Leeds because he genuinely believed he stood the best chance of winning last time round. Going to make fascinating viewing...

I agree with Nigel Wood, its for once a very difficult decision whoever wins this week is probably capable of winning the comp, even Hull who lets be honest cant play as bad as the CCF

Unlike some posters on here, I like some of the more 'wacky' RFL initiatives. However, the club call is not something that I am feel positively about!

If you were Wolves would you pick Saints? Considering the record they have against them. Can see Saints goin to Old Traffod again this season

The only team not to have taken any points off Wire this year is Hudds.
Our record at home against Saints aint great!

Hudds and Leeds (or Saints) winning this weekend would lead to a genuinely interesting Club Call. Leeds/Saints would be the lowest placed team but Wires record against Hudds is brilliant. A real tough one!

Agree.  What he's saying is that he doesn't want folk blaming him if he picks a team that beats them.

Them's the rules at the moment.  Play to them.

I'd never miss a chance to let Wigan and Saints bash each a week before a final.
