Championships sponsor Kingstone Press has named Elsie Fryer as Dewsbury Rams King of the Fans – a season long hunt to find the best rugby league Championships supporters. Elsie from Batley has supported Dewsbury Rams for 63 years as both an active volunteer and loyal season ticket holder. Elsie co-ordinates travel to away matches and even personally sponsors the team to travel to a number of matches each season. At home Elsie is a member of the club lottery, sells programmes on match day and organises the annual player of the year award ceremony and presentation.
On hearing the good news Elsie said: “I'm delighted to have been given this title. I've been a supporter of the Rams since 1950 and love still being involved in the club.”
As part of her prize, Elsie will receive a crate of cider and a family ticket to Championships Finals Day, where she will be welcomed onto the pitch at half time to fly the flag for Dewsbury Rams. She is now also a contender to be named ‘Ultimate King of the Fans’ at the Final along with another 22 Kings of the Fans crowned from across the other Championships clubs. In addition to the title, which is the first of its kind, the winning super fan will receive a year’s supply of cider and an England Rugby League money can’t buy prize.
