Here at the land of the long white clouds all the talks have been about All Blacks tour to Japan and UK. Doesn't really help that the games are shown early in the morning as well. The NZ vs Samoa game got 105,570 (7:05am – 9:10am) in the ratings.

That seems to be a pretty good viewing figures for the time slot - certainly bigger than anything shown on FTA TV from 7am - 5pm.

I agree though that the NZ media has been pretty lazy about the RLWC though - radio sport for example (which is usually pretty strong on it's RL coverage) has been pathetic - very disappointing.

It was after the Magic Weekend- and even more packed than the Tube

You've obviously never had the misfortune to use the Waterloo and City line during rush hour. They'll be hiring Japanese men in white gloves next.

I never expecting from the funny looking girl who does the sport on BBC Breakfast, she has her pet sports which are Soccer and Union. I don't actual think she has ever mentioned Rugby League.

Last nights Scotland v Tonga game was the lead sports story on BBC Radio 2 this morning, heard it just before 8, knocking the Arsenal v Chelsea game to second story.

Just something as small as that makes me smile, little wins eventually build into something bigger and gets us in to mainstream consciousness.

just read a Eurosport article by someone called Desmond Kane. what a tool. why do people choose to write about RL if they have no interest in it? why slag a sport off for the sake of it? what if a RL writer started to write articles about how boring football is, or why do RU copy everything from league? there would be uproar! rant over

Not sure whether the reference is to the Bristol Sonics, because if it's to the Dark Side promoting our World Cup, they'll have their invitations rescinded to the next Lions' Tours to South Africa of the 80s get together (those were the days...).

It referred to the Gorillas at the zoo, mucking about with a RWC ball.

One paragraph in today's Metro, about Sam Burgess' ban. Pathetic beyond belief.

From the Herald Sun, more on that meeting with Prince Charles.

Unfortunately the games 'we' see every night are only being seen by subscribers to Premier Sports. 99.9% of the general public who don't normally follow RL won't pay £29.98 to watch the RLWC on a television station they've never previously heard of.

I really do think that this might be the best RLWC that has been seen by the fewest people.

mmmm maybe that it isn't on mainstream TV (and I include Sky in that nowadays) has meant more people going to the game.  That is if all the games that have attracted good gates where on the BBC I wonder how many would have stayed at home to watch. Of course depends upon whether its best to have good attendance or good eye-balls on the game through whatever medium.   Just a thought....

Mind you that doesn't address the audience abroad in which Premier I guess is the only vehicle... is PremierSport on the internet able to be accessed in other countries.   It works OK with a cable plugged between the PC and TV.  Although that would not get the non fan public watching.

anything much in the Scottish papers?
Rugby League is a sport that desperately needs to expand its geographical supporter base and its player base. This imperative means that all other requirements are secondary until this is done.

All power in the game should be with governing bodies, especially international governing bodies.

Without these actions we will remain a minor sport internationally and nationally.

Sadly, ITV West have had to can a proposed live report from the Memorial Stadium tonight (in the build up to the game, on their nightly news programme) as IMG won't let them do it. Given that more coverage in this neck of the woods would be ideal, it's a bit disappointing that IMG take this attitude towards "non rights holders", given that they wouldn't be showing the game and they'd be gone before Premier Sports' coverage starts.

Strange that the RLWC2013 media department have little say - I.E they ask IMG and say they'd like to do it, IMG says no.

Still, it's a small thing and the coverage generally has been fantastic.

A staggering thing on Twitter is that, with all other big Rugby League events (Origin, Grand Final, CC Final, even other Internationals) you always get plenty of RU or AFL trolls slagging off the game as a matter of course.

With the RWC, I've seen almost nothing! :O
