Yes, he's got an 'ology' and isn't shy about making sure everyone knows about it.

Can't he get some cream for that?

The RLWC is suddenly getting a lot more coverage here in Oz !!!!!

Unfortunately, it's all about the Billy Slater "nightclub incident".

Andy Wilson has been noticible by his absence. In Australia covering the cricket warm up games before the proper cricket journos arrive.

I've never been a big fan of his, but he has improved markedly in recent years and I bet he's a bit sore on missing out, and on balance I think we're missing out by not having him writing.

His cricket reporting seems limited to stating the bleeding obvious but I am sure that this will grow as he develops some sources to feed him some juicy bits of news.

Given the positive comments in this article, we should have the head honcho of Scottish Rugby Union doing PR for us!

Given the positive comments in this article, we should have the head honcho of Scottish Rugby Union doing PR for us!

Before joining the SRFU Dodson was chief exec of the Manchester Evening News. During his brief period at the helm circulation plummetted, profits nosedived, staff numbers were slashed, millions were lost in a local TV station called Channel M which had viewung figures in the hundreds and the MEN became Sale Sharks' main cheerleader while its rugby league coverage ignored anything below Salford.

On the plus side his personal salary rocketted so maybe he does have a future at Red Hall!

This part stands out from that article for mine:

"ACCORDING to the Rugby League International Federation constitution, the gates of all Tests are to be levied with the money going into central funds. The levy is supposed to apply, as a percentage, the same to Saturday’s Vanuatu-Niue game in Port Vila as April’s Australia-New Zealand match in Canberra. But is it being applied at all? The 2008 World Cup made a reported $4 million profit. How was this spent? If we are all to get behind the 2013 tournament with our cash and enthusiasm, surely a little transparency shouldn’t be too much to ask in return? The fact is, domestic leagues don’t want the RLIF taking sponsors and other financial opportunities off them and that’s been holding back international footy for years."

Nothing like a bit of club self-interest and short-sightedness to dampen your spirits is there?!

He's written a nice piece in this month's Forty20 magazine, giving his view of the early stages of the comp from a hotel room in Perth WA.  It wouldn't be hist fault that he's in Australia.  I got the impression from a comment he made on the Gruniad's (diminishing) RL world cup articles that he didn't want to be down under when the WC is going on here.

I think club self-interest and short-sightedness can be set as the default for any and every aspect of the sport which may be under discussion at any given time.

Full page in the Independent on Rugby today - well at least I think it is. Would be nice just the once to get a full page without continual cross references to union.

They even have to point out that one guy in the Kiwi crowd picture is wearing an all black shirt. Pathetic.

Posted on the Scot v NZ thread, but very relevant here too ...

'One of the Scotland squad was being interviewed on BBC Radio Five Live this morning - one of the 100% born and bred Scots with genuine accent - at approx 9am. Only caught the end of it, so not sure who it was (on the books at Hull KR), but he did his country, team and sport proud!'

That must have been very distressing for Nicky Campbell. B)

Correct, why doesn't he just not go?

I bet we hardly notice the difference in coverage. Let a trainee who has never seen an RL match in his or her life go instead.  Seriously.

That's what he does in SL.

The Washington Post has an article on the Tomahawks and quite a decent size. Not sure if I can link here as they state not to be redistributed??

But one can google Washington Post + exceeding-expectations-us-prepares-for-australia-in-rugby-league-quarterfinals-in-wales
