Northern Rail Cup has been scrapped as of next season, another poor decision from the rlf once again! Thoughts?

Is this not a chance for the 3 Cumbrian teams to have a round robin between them. With no games no till the end of February I think, it would be a good chance of getting some money in the coffers.

If the RFL don't come up with an alternative the clubs should set up their own competition.
The 3 Cumbrian clubs could play each other home and away to make a mini league. The top two play off to be Cumbrian Champions.
This game could be staged at the neutral ground of the team finishing 3rd in the league. All 3 teams sharing the revenue.
Or the top two play each other home and away with an aggregate score to determine the Champions.

On the Oldham forum someone is proposing something similar to the above as a "Greater Manchester Cup".
If York and Gateshead were included in ours we could have a "Great North Cup" competition.

Be realistic, nobody would want to travel as far as york or gateshead in pre season, cumbria cup would do me.

what the #### are the RFL up to  ? do they understand how much money clubs are going to lose in gate revenue ,  this could sink some clubs who rely on the income the cup brings

It seems that this news has come from the following

http://www.loverugby...d-for-2014.html

I'm amazed that their has been no comment on this forum about the Wigan Chairman's leaked letter to SL Clubs which resulted in the RFL calling off a planned EGM. Martyn Sadler has written an extremely good editorial in this weeks Rugby Leaguer. Following this was a big spread in the 'Mail' drawing readers to Keith Nutter's column. It seems that a number of SL clubs are unhappy about the reformatting of the leagues in 2014. This would through doubt on the importance of clubs getting into the top 9.

Whilst abolition of the Northern Rail Cup is importance in my view the format of leagues in 2015 is far more important.

Wonder how many clubs have snapped up some of the best players dropping out of super league( hoping for a top 9 spot) on the basis of revenue generated from the NR cup?? There could be some worrying times a head for some clubs!

I was thinking of the revenue from two more home games.

get the games on a Saturday and have a train running up the coast and I bet there would be a lot going up and down the coast. we got to look after ourselves up here in Cumbria cause by the look of it the rfl couldn't give a to,ss about us up here or even in the championship. maybe there testing us lot and see a survival of the fittest for promotion.

Agreed fully, All 3 cumbrian clubs should do what's best for them/ourselves/cumbrian RL etc help each other when possible and raise the standards locally whenever possible and promote the gamethe way the Amateur Cumbrian League came together last season.

It's not much of a money spinner.  Gates are not only poor, they're shared.

Poor gates, shared money, food and drink takings and possible winnings... Better than nothing!!
