The RFL have decided to end the NRC with immediate effect http://www.loverugby...d-for-2014.html

This cuts both ways I suppose: the competition was fairly poorly supported even last year when the fixtures were scattered within the league programme, but on the other hand it was the only trophy that non-SL clubs had any hopes of actually competing for. Given that Northern Rail were keen to continue sponsoring the competition for 2014 and there will be no other extra fixtures it seems that this may leave a few Championship clubs in a bit of a pickle. I wonder what plans there are to fill the gap.

Any comments or statement from the club on this?

With one less cup/warm up competition to play in,i can see only one thing happening for 2014,and that is just having one league for all championship clubs until they get round to sorting something out for 2015.

Let's hope they have something up their sleeve, but on the face of it it looks a bizarre decision, taken without reference to the clubs.

Personally I think its a bad move by the RFL, unless it was losing money hand over fist. I think a properly managed cup or plate competition for clubs outside SL could eventually grow. What format this would be I don't know but it needs sticking with if the right formula is found.

After all the Yorks/Lancs cup & Regal Trophy were around long enough.

I don't fully understand this, are Northern Rail still willing to fund this competition?

Despite the comments on this forum - and I liked it too - gates were poor.

Seems as if it isn't quite dead yet it's now under review. Looks like some clubs are in favor if it fev for one. Others less so because of poor attendances. I think we will still have somesort of cup next year even if just for Ch1.
I bet Mark is pulling his hair out trying to sort sponsorship.
ETA New sponsor for next season is Yorkshire Building Supplies.

We lost out on another sponsor after the Wigan chairman and his friends decided they don't want to play ball about what's going to happen in 2015

Don't worry, you won't have to play anything like as many next year.

Looks like NRC will be back for 2015 more than likely with a different format though. Likely the sponsor will be Northern rail .why it was dropped and then picked up again just for one season seems odd.
