I remember when .............................

"It is impossible not to feel a twinge of sympathy for Workington Town, the fall guys this season for the Super League's determination to retain it's European dimension, in the shape of Paris. While the French have had every assistance to survive, the importance of having a flagship in a heartland area like West Cumbria has been conveniently forgotten." - Dave Hadfield - Independent 25th August 1996.

Yes, I read that article but only 3 weeks ago he was signing and playing for Kendal RU, so if it is correct that he is signing for Town then he obviously wasn't too struck on Kendal RU.

He must be playing there in the off season, I think the union finishes as the league starts

I take it he will be to add strength in depth in the centres. Sounds a promising lad.

We haven't got many to pick from ! Could really do with a seasoned name centre to go with our quality ,young potential . And fullback and half to as areas to look at . We always have good muscle , and depth there , we could do with more strike and depth behind the scrum next year to give us more dimensions and best chance of max reward for our grunt.

It is James Duerden.

Another promising young cumbrian signing by looks of it.

Well done to the board once again.  Getting Brett Carter re-signed would be good, together

with a few more new recruits.  Up the Town!

Quality young Cumbrian amateurs ... You know it makes sense to come here . Nice words James , all the best . Good stuff . Few of these and some seasoned pros in key positions to help them along and it's a tasty mix

Will be interested to see how he goes. He maybe a centre in union but not a centre in league. Very fit and athletic but will remain to be seen if he has the technical ability to make it pro. Good luck to him though and deserves his chance

Askam player of the year, top try scorer, most man of the matches, only playing union in the off season to keep. fit, i watch askam. every week and he is by far the best amateur around in my opinion, brilliant signing for you.
