Just thought it might be a good idea if we all keep an eye on how the national newspapers are reporting on the World Cup and Rugby League over the next month or so.
We all know that the London-centric media establishment is either (1) unashamedly hostile towards, or (2) couldn't give a stuff about the game, but this could be a great opportunity to sort the wheat from the chaff.
Obviously bear in mind that there are editions for both north and south, and we need to pay particular attention to the latter with a view towards getting the sport more firmly embedded in the national pysche.
How about we post details of the coverage here, based on regional area. I know some might disagree, but I think it also important to contrast column inches with those given over to Rugby Union as a control.
For example, in the Times today in SW England, approx 2/3 of a page are RL. In contrast, 2 full pages are RU.
Worse, the Daily Mail SW Edition devotes 3 full pages to RU (largely about Johhny Wilkinson and Clive Woodward), while RL manages a measly 8 column inches (approximately 1/12 of a page).
