You say that, but RS is also responsible for some of the otlandish predictions of booming crowd numbers, which happen to have come true.
In any event, they only need to make enough to allow the organisers to continue doing what they're doing.


Approximately 400,000 spectators at an average of £15 (which is probably on the high side) each only gives gross revenue of £6m (£5m after vat is deducted). To make £15m net profit they'd need a revenue figure somewhere in the £25-30m range at the very least - where's the other £20-25m coming from ?

What have the BBC (TV and Radio) and Premier Sports paid for their rights? Anyone got an idea?

 

It was reported that PS beat Sky's initial offer, but that doesn't mean that they bid all that much.

Spend the money on the people who made the money and who can continue to make the money. Make sure Sally and co get effective control over the wider international game - coordinating fixtures, sponsors, the whole kit and kaboodle. If we develop a proper infrastructure with clear communications, proper authority and the ability to market the international game across the board, then the rest will follow. Every penny should go on that infra.

What would be your priorities for spending the cash?

For me;
1. Cash for Tonga, PNG, Cooks, Samoa, Fiji etc to have regular internationals. This should be seed corn funding aimed at getting local sponsors and building crowds so that ongoing investment required is less in future

2. Meaningful European competition for Scotland Ireland Wales France and those countries that did not qualify but may have hopes for 2017 or 2021

3. Immediate marketing role to develop relationships from WC - new sponsors and spectators to keep on board and offer good deals to. Role for new competition in Europe to offer sponsorship opportunities

4. Seek potential partners in Scotland & Ireland for local Championship 1 sides and academies to develop depth of talent and credible future squads

5. Work with Sonics, UGAG and Bristol academy to develop RL in south west

6. Find a way to bring Worky & haven together to develop a shared academy and find partners to build stadium, fund development in Cumbria as a whole

 

Number 1 is the absolute priority - a proper Pacific Championship to give thos nations annual fixtures.

At the moment I still consider Rugby League to be six nations: Australia, New Zealand, England, France, Papua New Guinea and Wales.

 

I'd put Fiji in that group. They have a well organised championship which seems to be at a good standard. As part of the squad selection Fiji hels a Battle of the Bati in which a residents team, made up of players from that championship, took on and beat an overseas-based Fiji team containing players from the Queensland Cup, NSW Cup, etc.

By the way, I know that there is a European competition at the moment but I want to see it expanded and tiered in such a way that it supports all Euro sidea

 

I would also prioritise the RLIF, but couldn't justify outlay on premises and executive salaries if we were still seeing sides going years without an international


Rugby League is a sport that desperately needs to expand its geographical supporter base and its player base. This imperative means that all other requirements are secondary until this is done.

All power in the game should be with governing bodies, especially international governing bodies.

Without these actions we will remain a minor sport internationally and nationally.

total revenue was above £20m before a ball had been kicked...

For me it's about getting the back office right. A CEO and support staff would help a lot, accompanied by project budgets for competition and developing nations. The other key budget heading would be RLWC 2017, giving the organisers a head start and not  a standing start.

 

I saw the £15m floating around too. If it's at that end of the scale, fantastic. If it's at £2m fantastic also, if it's kept within responsible management at international level. Hopefully it doesn't go to Red Hall.

 

Priority 1: Infrastrcture

Priority 2: Competition support

Priority 3: Restricted funding for project in developing nations and developing areas

If England win the money should be spent on a gargantuan gold jewel encrusted statue of Steve McNamara and Kev Sinfield.

Seriously though the cash should be ploughed into grassroots rugby and to get kids playing the game in schools nationwide. if theres any left over use it to start a semi pro club in Norwich ;)

This should be used to hire PAs for the CEO's and Directors of Rugby League.
