The teams have been put into four groups each named after a colour - just like houses at school!

Here's who's in which group:

•    (YELLOW) Warriors, Raiders, Sea Eagles and Cowboys
•    (GREEN) Roosters, Eels, Broncos and Bulldogs
•    (BLUE) Sharks, Knights, Tigers and Titians
•    (RED) Storm, Panthers, Rabbitohs and Dragons.

The matches will be played over 9 minute halves, will run on the weekend of 15th - 16th February at Eden Park, Auckland, New Zealand.

Here's the full draw for the two days (local times):

15th February (Saturday)
Game 1. Sharks v Knights – 12.35pm
Game 2. Tigers v Titans – 1pm
Game 3. Roosters v Eels – 1.25pm
Game 4. Broncos v Bulldogs – 1.50pm
Game 5. Warriors v Raiders – 2.25pm
Game 6. Sea Eagles v Cowboys – 2.50pm
Game 7. Storm v Panthers – 3.15pm
Game 8. Rabbitohs v Dragons – 3.40pm
Game 9. Sharks v Tigers – 4.20pm
Game 10. Knights v Titans – 4.45pm
Game 11. Roosters v Broncos – 5.10pm
Game 12. Eels v Bulldogs – 5.35pm
Game 13. Warriors v Sea Eagles – 6.10pm
Game 14. Raiders v Cowboys – 6.35pm
Game 15. Storm v Rabbitohs – 7pm
Game 16. Panthers v Dragons – 7.25pm

16th February (Sunday)
Game 17. Sharks v Titans – 12pm
Game 18. Knights v Tigers – 12.25pm
Game 19. Roosters v Bulldogs – 12.50pm
Game 20. Eels v Broncos – 1.15pm
Game 21. Warriors v Cowboys – 1.45pm
Game 22. Raiders v Sea Eagles – 2.10pm
Game 23. Storm v Dragons – 2.35pm
Game 24. Panthers v Rabbitohs – 3pm
1st Quarter-Final – 3.30pm
2nd Quarter-Final – 3.55pm

4th Quarter-Final – 4.45pm
1st Semi-Final – 5.45pm
2nd Semi-Final – 6.10pm

Just seen the new rule changes today.

This contest is going to be red-hot. I dont think anyone really understands how good this contest is going to be.

I am going to watch two days of this, and i bet i love every minute.

Glad it is on fox.

The Broncos Warriors trail is normally telecast on fox as well. Good times.

Can't see any details yet on UK TV showing it.

New  rules for A9's:

The two-day tournament at Eden Park will see five-point tries awarded to teams who score in a "bonus zone" in the in-goal area between the goal posts. All other tries are still worth four points.

The goalkicking rules of sevens rugby union have been borrowed, with all shots at goal to be drop kicks rather than place kicks.

The games will comprise two nine-minute halves, with each team allowed five tackles in possession, rather than six.

A game which is level at fulltime will be decided by the first team to score a "golden try" in extra time.

Somebody has asked PSTV on Twitter if they are showing the Auckland Nines tournament and the answer I saw from them said they 'are working on it'.

Fingers crossed then!

If Sky can hook this one they might also get Vossy calling the games as well.

Being a huge event you would think they would broadcast it somehow for Premier-sports.

Why would you waste such a good event. Strike while the iron is hot.

Rule Changes:
• Introduction of the Bonus Zone – a five point try for tries scored in the in-goal area between the goal posts at each end. All tries scored outside the bonus zone will remain four pointers
• Introduction of 'GoldenTry' -  where if teams are drawn at fulltime – in extra time the first team to score a try wins – with the 'Golden try'
• Goal-kicks will not feature in the tournament with dropkicks taken in line from where the try was scored worth two points. Penalty dropkicks will be worth two points with a field goal in general play remaining at one point.
• Scrums will consist of five players from each team and will only be used in the event of a double knock-on or a mutual infringement.
• In the event of a successful 40/20 kick, play will recommence with a tap re-start to the kicking team 20 metres in from where the ball crossed the touch line.
• Matches will be re-started by the scoring team through a drop kick off
• Referees will have the power to send players to the sin-bin for five minutes for foul play.

These are the key rule changes for the Auckland Nines tournament on 15th and 16th February 2014 referred to above by oikee

Has there been any update as to whether Premier will be showing the 9's?

I quite fancy a weekend in front of the box with a crate of beer!

Positive news RE

I've just read this on Facebook:

Great new for Rugby League fans. The NRL season is starting early! We have secured full coverage of the inaugural NRL Auckland Nines competition which runs over the weekend of Feb 15th and 16th. All 16 NRL teams will be represented and with prize money of over 2 million dollars the big guns will be out at a sold out Eden Park. Expect fireworks!

How good is that?

Well done Premier Sports TV

Surely Brad Fittler must be mad!

He's over 40, been retired from playing top class RL for about ten years but syas he's going to pull his boots on for Roosters again and appear in the Auckland 9's for them.

OK this has got a lot of publicity for the tournament and himself but all the same .... ...

The NRL still has to sanction this - if he's being serious.
