Players haven't been given squad numbers in the world cup, they are numbered 1-17 in their respective positions when the teams are announced. These will be given out over the PA system in the run up to kick off of each game

In this tournament I think the shirt numbers match the starting positions of each player, although I haven't really tuned in to that aspect properly to be honest, so can't confirm.

That explains a lot!   The Hull PA was so muffled and indistinct as to be next to useless.  At Cardiff, they didn't relay the teams and numbers in the bar/urinals.  Wanted to give my mate a printed list so I didn't have to shout at him: he's from Ash Vale, you see.

I suspected you did once I'd already posted.

The boys will all look even more 'samey' from a distance unless you're pitch-side Saturday ... fair old size Wembley! :)
