Many decline honours; a tedious few decline them as noisily and publicly as they can, to feed their need for self-aggrandisement.

Sorry to be tedious but, so far, I've declined offers to be OBE, CBE, Baron Fatgit of Gwent, Lord Elpus, the Duke of Swillington, the Earl of Grimethorpe and the Marquess of Zorro. The ceremony always clashed with Hollyoaks on Channel 4.

Those recognised by the Queen in the New Year Honours List include doctor who oversaw delivery of Prince George........

True, but is that the reason he was honoured? Maybe he was honoured becuase he has kept quiet about seeing something only the Duke of Edinburgh has seen and  something that possibly only Tony Blair has seen.

Surgeon-Gynaecologist to Queen Elizabeth 2nd and  also attended Cherry Booth to deliver her fourth child,

In the past didn't the Home Secretary get to see what only the Duke of Edinburgh should see? (and presumably any 'by appointment' lovers).

If true, that may explain why so many Home Secs don't stay in office that long!

A certain Mr Bowie did that.

Probably David Robert Jones did actually

Nah, he'd have been offered the knighthood as David Bowie, surely? You never hear of Sir Reg Dwight, do you?
