“Libel tourism” and “trivial claims” should be significantly curtailed under a new law enshrining freedom of expression that comes into effect on Wednesday, the government has said.

Presumably this legislation is why David Blunkett is trying to get some tv comedy shows reclassified as political shows.

its a serious point, since people like the British Chiropractors who tried to sue Simon Singh, and all those others who basically abused our libel laws.

Haven't read the article as you have to register, but the headline refers to the UK Defamation Act. The legislation affects just England and Wales, Northern Ireland is consulting on whether to follow suit.
