I sort of made a choice based on Warriors v Saints result that  it'd be Wigan by not much, but the imponderables are just too many new players and losses, two excellent coaches and plenty of depth and talent on both sides. Most importantly only four sleeps to go!

Even with a World Cup the dark part of the year gets longer and darker every time

YES! A match thread! Not long now!

Hard to judge this one, Wigan should be firing as they will have been prepared to peak for the Roosters game so its whether they are thinking ahead or if they want to start with a bang.

Huddersfield always seem to start the season well so if past experience shows anything then they too should be firing come Friday.

Its set up for a big opener and I cant wait!

The Giants are a terrific team, but it is a shame this game is when it is, as Wigan will almost certainly be further on in their training than Huddersfield, given we are targetting the Roosters game a couple of weeks later. For that reason, and that reason alone, I think we'll win. It'll be hard though, especially if the Giants come out all guns firing as they did last year.

It'll be about who spills the most claret in the second stanza.  Also, something about a merry whistle blower.

Giants to narrowly lose this as we've only had one pre-season friendly due to the weather. However, I'm still going to blame the ref.....

Wigan by 8. Given the weather, I'm wondering if we should have been able to choose 'match postponed due to waterlogged pitch'!

Wigan by 12 I think. Good win at saints friday playing against saints strongest team think wigan players will want to do well to get a world club final spot as there are quite a few positions are still up for grabs in that team. Be hard tho as huddersfield are a solid team also home advantage sways it for me

I'm just so glad to end the off-season! :) There was even a trailer on Radio 5 this afternoon.

Giants have been away to too clubs every season in the last few years on opening day - and won

Based on track record it's a Giants win by a good margin.

I'll say Giants by 8

I'm going for Giants as well , Wigan have bigger Fish to fry just now . They wont get a second shot at WCC.

I'm going to go for Wigan by 12. I'm just guessing that Wigan will be that little bit further ahead with their preparation but what do I know (not a lot)

I agree EW. Wigan to win.

Wigan are likely to be further on in their conditioning. Hudds play on Friday and don't play again until 23 Feb.

I'm really looking forward to this.

Cant call it, but a Giants win is a clear possibility, but not a clear probability.

Just glad the SL season will be under way at last!

Is that a copy-paste job from one of Boxhead's posts on the World Cup?

Will be interesting to see whether Huddersfield pick up any knee/joint injuries, as many of Wigan's players are quite new.

I can confirm 30+ less sales for Scotland vs Italy at Workington, after this afternoons test purchase for the Tonga match, £7.50 is extremely reasonable, however a £2.50 'delivery' fee for a walk in purchase is beyond taking the mickey, good luck with that, it's cheaper on the telly.

you have to expect Wigan to be up for this and for all of their players to b trying to get a place in the WCC team so I will pick Wigan although it should be a great gam either way.
