Oldham 24 Swinton Lions 18

Swinton had 60% of their playing staff on debut and that must of had a bearing on the result.

This was Oldham's second warm up match was again against Championship opposition, and it was to prove a stern test for an Oldham team without Lewis Palfrey.

Both Oldham and Swinton left their kicking boots in the changing rooms with a series of failed conversations effecting the final score.

Overall Oldham made more solid yards up the middle of the pitch but Swinton took an two try lead from set moves close to the Oldham Line, Ian Watson manoeuvred the Swinton pack again the meadow all afternoon.

Oldham had high energy levels and their defence was mobile and solid for must of the game. The Oldham forwards worked hard all match but both wingers came into the line to carry the ball a critical times to take the pressure off the big lads.

Some good work from the forwards saw Oldham move the ball out wide to the right wing, a clever pass from the Cookson saw Mo crossing the line

Oldham made a series of handling errors and gifted Swinton good possession in vital areas but conditions were not best. Swinton worked the ball across the line to make it 12 points to 4 at Half time.

The second half saw Swinton drop off the pace despite Oldham gifting Swinton a scrum on Oldham line following a knock on by Oldham's stand in full back Nield. from the resulting scrum Swinton scored to make it 18 points to 4.

Oldham playing down hill pickup the pace and attacked an tiring Swinton defensive line.

Oldham try and conversation made it 18 points to 10

Oldham scored again and missed the conversation 18 points to 14

A try just to the left of the posts saw Oldham draw level but a failed conversation left the crowd frustrated  but after a  good passage of play Oldham crashed over for their final try and a converted conversation goal by Sam Gee saw the final score Oldham 24 Swinton Lions 18.

Oldham played well and this was a good test for the team, Swinton are in for a challenging season in the Championship but after what they have done just to put a team on the field is amazing, so good luck to all at the club.

Oldham roll on to another friendly against Leigh next week.
