Questioned about where the money was coming from to help flood victims, Eric Pickles stated that we are a wealthy country. So how come there are many suffering from severe cost-cutting measures?
When compared to, say, Bangladesh, which suffers from yearly floods due to the monsoon, we are indeed a wealthy country.
Wealth and poverty are relative.
And we haven't experienced 'severe' cost cutting measures. If you wanted those you should have visited Ireland or Greece. We've had it easy compared to those two countries.
