Scotland and England are currently watching the rain fall at Mannofield Park, Aberdeen. What I didn't know 'til today is that this was also the venue for Don Bradman's last innings on British soil in 1948!

A good Telegraph article about it here.

I don't think they've played Wales for a few years. Not since we beat them the last time.

Wales aren't a country and therefore England only play pretend matches against them.

Whilst I appreciate the spirit of the reply, I would like to think that Sri Lanka say the same thing about matches with England.  And the West Indies.

PS:  They are not a fish either.

Just finished reading 'Ashes to Ashes' by Marcus Berkmann. 35 years of watching England v Australia, including details of what the touring teams wore at their Christmas fancy dress parties. Highs and lows and below that, the Nineties. His description of the 2005 series will make you re-live it all again.

The book finishes with Steve Harmison's first delivery in the 2006 series... 'nuff said?

Oh, in that case, you might as well pretend that you won.

What are you pretending about the Netherlands result?

;)

England is not a real country, so it does not count.

Easy.

Whilst I appreciate the spirit of the reply, I would like to think that Sri Lanka say the same thing about matches with England.  And the West Indies.

PS:  They are not a fish either.

A team called England & Wales played a team called Wales three times.  England (the shortening of England & Wales) beat Wales on 2 of those occasions - none of which were, to my knowledge, recognised internatioals.  Wales featured both Welshmen and people who happened to be playing for Glamorgan at the time.  That is all that happened.

England (the shortening of England & Wales) have lost to the Netherlands.  This is a real country.  They have also, on occasion, lost to something called Netherlands XI.  This is not a real country.

There is a minor county called Wales.  England (the shortening of England & Wales) have never played them.  There is no country called Wales.

If you believe any of the above to be incorrect please do contact the ICC.  I'm sure they'd be happy to discuss the matter further.

Thanks, Ginge.

I had no idea that England & Wales is a country, but I am happy to know now.

The West Indies isn't a country either.

Back to the drawing board, Jon.

I'm pleased you've accepted that Wales isn't a country.
