Chester Gladiators plan to run two open age teams in 2014 and are recruiting new players to further bolster the squad.

Pre-season training began last month and the turnout has been extremely encouraging with a large number of new players already committing to the club for the 2014 season.

In order to increase playing opportunities, the club are now looking to enter an A team in the North West Men's League Entry Division to complement the first team, who will compete in Division Four.

The second team will play regular non-competitive fixtures as and when arranged through the summer months.

With the focus on gaining experience, maintaining fitness and development, the A team is ideal for newcomers to rugby league, rugby union players interested in experiencing a new sport and youngsters moving into senior rugby.

“New players are always welcome and previous rugby league experience is not needed,” said chairman Jim Green.

“Our players come from all kinds of backgrounds and we'd encourage anybody interested in giving rugby league a go to come along to training.”

Training takes place at 7pm every Monday at Upton-by-Chester High School on St James Avenue in Upton.
