Mills happy with start

Crusaders prop David Mills says that his new side showed a lot of spirit in their opening day victory over Barrow Raiders.
Mills signed for Crusaders from Swinton Lions in the off-season and made a real impact on his competitive debut, as he was named the official Man of the Match and also lined up in Championship Team of the Week for Round One.
The 32-year-old said: "It was a really good result for us against Barrow. It was a good start to the season.
"We showed a lot spirit when Michael Platt was sent off and, as Clive [Griffiths] said after the game, it really did galvanise us.
"We've talked about how character will play a big part this season, and we showed plenty of character in the game. It will stand us in good stead for the rest of the season."
Mills, who has had experience in Super League with the likes of Widnes and Hull KR, says that it was nice to receive plaudits for his performance on debut - but that there were also plenty of other performances just as good.
He said: "I was looking to start off the season well. I don't think I did well in pre-season so it was nice to get off to a good in the league.
"Everyone did well in the game. There were a couple of other man of the match performances as well.
"Hopefully I'll be able to carry doing okay and help the team out as much as possible."
Next up for Crusaders is an away trip to face another Cumbrian side, Whitehaven, on Sunday - and Mills says that another good performance is required.
He said: "Hopefully we'll be able to build on the Barrow performance. It's a long way up to Cumbria, and an even longer back if you lose the game.
"We've got training on Wednesday and Friday this week so we we need to knuckle down and work hard ahead of the game.
"Whitehaven have got a good team. I went there when I was playing for Swinton last year and it was a really tough game.
"They have made some good signings for this season as well so we'll have to make sure that we're at our best."
After being in and around the club for a couple of months now, Mills believes that it is a realistic expectation for Crusaders to stay up this season.
He said: "The quality of the squad is there. A lot of new players have come to the club but everyone has knitted in well together.
"With the results and success that the club had last year, there is a real winning mentality at the club. It's up to us new lads who have come to the club to buy into that.
"We don't want to be losing games. We want to have a strong year and win as many games as we can."
