I have just seen in the League Weekly newspaper that John Henderson died last week, aged 84, and his funeral was today at Huddersfield Crematorium.   John played 106 games for Town between 1950 and 1955 and scored 13 tries usually as a prop forward.   He also played 8 times for Cumberland, 1 game for England and he was selected to tour Australia on the 1954 tour, the first touring team to fly to Australia, taking 4 days.    John, a Maryport lad was transferred to Halifax in January 1955 for a fee of £2,000.   RIP John.

I remember when .............................

"It is impossible not to feel a twinge of sympathy for Workington Town, the fall guys this season for the Super League's determination to retain it's European dimension, in the shape of Paris. While the French have had every assistance to survive, the importance of having a flagship in a heartland area like West Cumbria has been conveniently forgotten." - Dave Hadfield - Independent 25th August 1996.

RIP, just read a bit about him and he sounds like he was a hell of a player.
